  1. BOOT / SATA OPERATION MODE

    Hello,

Greetings from my small country of Bahrain. I hope all of you are healthy and safe during these times.

I just wanted to clarify a small issue I have, below are the specs of my system

    Dell Optiplex 9010 MT

    Win10 pro x64 licensed

    Processor Intel i7 3770

    16 GB RAM 4+4+4+4 DDR3

    GTX 1050 2GB Graphic Card PCIe x 16 2.0 slot

Storage Samsung 256 GB SSD + 1TB default HDD OEM

Windows Virtualization and Hyperthreading is Disabled

My windows is installed on the SSD and only recently I have been having an issue that each time I restart my PC it says "boot drive not found press any key to restart machine"

However all the boot order is correct and SSD is detected in the BIOS; searching for an online fix, I found that from boot settings, selecting to boot via UEFI - Windows Boot Manager, it works fine and I am able to log in to windows. I have been using this for now.

From BIOS I found that my SATA operation is set to RAID. I have read that AHCI is better for an SSD.

I would like to ask three questions here

    1. Is the boot way that I am doing right now okay or should I solve it, if so how. This happened after a plug out of power supply from my PC while shifting and never booted in this way before

    2. Should I change my SATA operation to AHCI from the BIOS while i am already using windows on it and if so will this format or damage my SSD or require a reinstall of windows and my data to be backed up. Also will this change effect my secondary HDD as well or if I could disconnect it temporarily and do the change then reconnect it later.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

    Thank you

RAID SATA default in my system, change to ACHI for new SSD Boot drive?

These steps can be used in windows 10 to go back and forth from raid mode to achi, or achi to raid, mode depending upon what you need...

    • If currently installed, uninstall your RAID or AHCI SATA driver (for intel, intel rapid storage technology)
    • Basically open msconfig -> boot tab -> check safe boot -> restart
    • Go into UEFI/BIOS and set SATA mode to which ever one you want
    • Boot up into windows safe mode
    • Open msconfig again -> under the main menu tab (general) click the normal startup circle - > restart
    • Your system should boot into windows fine and you can install your AHCI or RAID driver.

Cannot boot Windows 10 from SATA M.2 in x1 mode

I am trying to boot Win 10 from Samsung SATA M.2 SSD (EVO 850 250GB).

It is booting perfectly when i set SATA M.2 x2 mode in BIOS. But when i set SATA M.2x1 mode in BIOS it is telling "inaccessible boot device" and didn't boot. I have verified hardware using linux OS. In both modes Linux boots.

Need a help regarding this issue

    BOOT / SATA OPERATION MODE

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.
