  1. Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

Seems counter intuitive. I would think checking the box would add the reg entry. Also, I thought the second option might be the culprit. Guess I can test it out since I know what to change it back too.

Yep, that's one of the main reasons why I don't like using 3rd party utility programs. Their default settings can do a number on you if you don't understand what they may do.

  3. I added the option in the Registry, yet when I went into W10 Manager nothing looked different any where. The menu looked exactly like my screenshot. Perhaps it's being added surreptitiously. I've found W10 Mgr over the years to be very reliable. If this entry was being added all the time then there is something about the new Windows 10 that behaves differently.

I emailed the author my findings now let's see what he says. This problem was really on my mind and being anal I just had to find out what was causing it. I'll let you know how things turn out. Thanks for all your posts.

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

Since it's a 3rd party program, I'm not sure if it'll update itself or not when you manually change the registry.

    Hi,
Somehow after an error, my Windows 10 computer keeps booting to CyberLink PowerRecover, which provides me the option to restore to HDD with no backup of user data. This is not what I prefer, since all my user data will be erased. I prefer to restore my computer to an earlier restore point via the Advanced Startup Options. I tried to boot to Advanced Startup Options from a Hard Reboot, however it didn't work.

What other options do I have? Maybe try to restore Windows 10 from a bootable usb?

  7. Does this work from the "shutdown or sign out" menu? As in, if your start menu doesn't work, but you can still restart the computer anyway?

    Hello Honeycomb, *Smile

Yep, you can do this from any Power menu that includes restart.

I just saw that you're added this method as option Seven. Thanks. I hope, it is useful for everyone.

I wish that can be open directly Advcanced Options screen part from command-line which that's obviously not possible. Perhaps there is a possible which running related the function from Blue Boot commands of Windows API with rundll32. Mark Russinovich knows if any man does (of course expect Windows kernel/boot team). *Smile

  11. Thanks for the instructions. The problem I had was after I installed the Anniversary Update in Windows 10 a message box appeared stating that the app Daemon Tools Lite can't run on this PC. Since the version I had was no longer compatible with the new Windows update I tried to uninstall it. But the message would appear again when I tried to uninstall and the program wouldn't uninstall. I thought that something was interfering with the uninstall so I decided to run MsConfig and restart the computer in Diagnostic Mode.
After the computer restarted I clicked on the Welcome Screen to get to the Log In Screen but my username and the box to enter my password didn't appear. I couldn't log in. I tried so many things but nothing worked. Until I found this page. I would just like to add a step to Option Six. You should hold down the power button when the blue/cyan Windows logo appears on the screen to force the reboot. This will cause the boot into Advanced Startup Options. I think adding this line just makes it clearer for novice users. User Neonblue also mentioned this in their post.
In conclusion, after I got the computer to boot into Safe Mode I opened up File Explorer and navigated to C:\Windows\System32 and ran MsConfig.exe as a Administrator. I selected Normal Startup and restarted the computer. The computer started fine and I was able to log in. Thanks, again. However, I still haven't been able to uninstall Daemon Tools Lite. I'll leave for another day.

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

    Hey all,

Finally I found another person with this issue! I have tried so many things to get my PC to login again but nothings worked so far. I tried this option, force rebooting the computer, and it does come up with the automatic repair message but instead of going to the Advanced Startup Options page it comes up with Windows Defender Offline. It does a virus scan and then proceeds to boot the computer.

Is this an issue with my recovery partition or something? I've also tried holding Shift when clicking restart from the login screen with no luck. Is there any other way to get to safe mode? Maybe using command prompt or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks!

@Shawn, you may want to revisit Option 1. In the newer IP builds the Advanced startup option is missing in Hyper-v of 15063.

    Hello @tracit99,

"Advanced Startup" is still available for me in "Recovery". I've updated the screenshot in Option 1 for what's in Windows 10 build 15063.
