Windows 10: Booted old PC up to find my "Picture" folder deleted and thousands of files in the...

Hi everyone,

I stowed a Windows 10 running PC in storage for three years and just booted it up last night. I found that my Picture Folder say's something along the lines of "Not here" when I click it. Additionally there are 4,000 plus files in the bin. I don't see any photos in the trash and they all look like mod files (from old games), but I cannot recall deleting or what happened to the Picture folder.

I don't want to us my PC in case my Pictures have been deleted and need to recover them. I'm not sure if the 4,000 files and missing Picture folder are non-related, but seeing the Pictures folder gone and 4,000 had me worried. I'm confident they are all old gaming files, but the correlation is concerning. It's been years since I used it so I cannot recall how I get here. I will say many of my photos are in other folders and it doesn't appear that they are gone.

I want to tread lightly because of the value those photos files have and I don't want to risk losing them.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

 

Trouble deleting a folder

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.

Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders? *Oh Well hwell:

 

Software to monitor a folder, backup, then delete?

Is there such a software that will allow the monitoring of a folder to not only backup, but also delete the data? For example, if I was to have a netbook, and it has the built-in card adapter for my camera, I can just copy all the files over to the netbook in a specific folder (ie, ::Temp Pictures), then the next time it connects to the internet/network it will search the folder for any new files, copy them over to my main PC, then delete the Temp Pictures data?

I've been looking into doing this, googling and whatnot, and it seems like there are a LOT of options for monitoring folders for updates, new data, copying, etc, but I haven't quite found one that allows you to delete after copying.
