    Bootrec/Fixboot access denied- can we update this info please?


    Here is a locked thread from a few years ago. All the info is still pretty relavent to my situation but my version is OS Build 19041.1 This is on a Lenovo P51 mobile workstation that I've managed to bonk up the boot sector somehow. The windows tools appear to be pretty useless, but I was making progress via the command prompt approach until right in the home stretch- BAM! access denied. Exactly the same as described in that previous thread. I guess I'm going to try to use recovery media, I'm not sure if that method matches up versions or what happens behind the curtain but my main hard d

    Bootrec /fixboot Access is denied error

    I encountered winlog.exe missing/corrupted issue during laptop startup. Have googled up solutions in repairing with USB bootable drive but did not help.

    There's other recommendations to enter command prompt and enter the few bootrec commands. However upon entering Bootrec /fixboot....it stated access is denied.

    Additionally there were additionals steps to follow but i still couldn't get this Bootrec /fixboot command accessible.

    Anyone know why and what are other steps?

    These are the commands and how to run them. No reason you should get Access denied.
    Fix the MBR – Guide for Windows 10, 11, XP, Vista, 7, 8
