  1. Bootres.dll is corrupt and potential problems with Windows 10 update

I have been running Windows 10 on a Kingston SSD for about a year with no major problems. Recently, Windows 10 told me it couldn't boot, the repair doesn't work and the various random instructions on the internet are complicated, generally do not describe what is actually being done and after trying many things, I decided the SSD was busted and lost most of my files when a copy operation failed silently!

The error that couldn't be repaired by Win10 was recorded in srttrail.txt as Boot critical file bootres.dll is corrupt.

I bought another SSD, ran a clean install of Windows 10 from my USB, had to install tonnes of updates, which wasted hours, and thought I had got past what I thought was a bad SSD but a week later and the same thing is happening on my new SSD. First of all it failed to boot and told me that the disk is not bootable. Now it attempts a repair, which fails and tells me exactly the same thing as before about bootres.dll!

I don't want loads of suggestions about reinstalling Windows or running the repair because I haven't done anything to break it and it is only a week old. I want someone who knows to help me figure out why bootres.dll has been corrupted twice on two separate SSDs (from different manufacturers) and the most recent time in less than a week after spending goodness knows how long installing everything again. It sounds like a serious bug with the latest Windows 10 update since I can still read files from the disks in the command-line (i.e. not major hardware fault), they just won't boot.

    Please can someone help?

    :)

  2. AsRock Win User

    Windows Updates failed to instal

I'm not sure how differant XP media center Edition is but you could clear the history \ cache if these folders are there.

    Step 1 Register DLL files.

    =================

By trying this step, we can check if the update engines are working properly.

    1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.

    2. Click Start and Run, type "Regsvr32 atl.dll" (without quotes) in the Open box and click OK.

Note: There is a space between regsvr32 and atl.dll

    3. Similarly, one by one, register the files listed below:

    Regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    Regsvr32 wuapi.dll

    Regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

    Regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll

    Regsvr32 wups2.dll

    Regsvr32 wucltui.dll

    Regsvr32 wups.dll

    Regsvr32 wuweb.dll

    Regsvr32 qmgr.dll

    Regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

    Regsvr32 jscript.dll

Note: If you encounter errors while registering any of these files then skip that file and continue with the next one.

If the issue persists, let's move on to the steps below to verify Windows Update services and temporary folders.

Step 2 Verify the relevant Windows Update services.

    =========================================

    1. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.

    2. Double click the service "Automatic Updates".

    3. Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option "Local System account" is selected and the option "Allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked.

    4. Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If not, please click the Enable button to enable it.

    5. Click on the tab "General "; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". Then please click the button "Stop" under "Service Status" to stop the service.

    6. Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start the service.

    7. Please repeat the above steps with the other services:

    Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    Event Log

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Note: Event log service is enabled on all of the hardware profiles; this service does not have an option to enable or disable on certain hardware profile.

If it still does not help, let's proceed to step 3.

Step 3 Reload the Update temporary folders.

    ===================================

One possible cause is that the temporary folder for Windows Update is containing corrupted files. Let's erase all the files there to get the system clean.

    1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

    Net stop WuAuServ

    2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.

    3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.

    4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window.

    Net start WuAuServ

Please test the Windows Update website and let me know the result. If the issue persists, to clarify the issue and provide more accurate troubleshooting steps, please assist me in collecting the following information.

  3. Windows 10 updates - Problems with disappearing or corrupt .dll files (MSVCR110.dll + MSVCP100.dll + nvspcap64.dll)

Last year (2015) I changed from Windows 8.1 to the free Windows 10. The Microsoft help-team solved some initial problems (disappearing .dll files for my "Windows Live Mail" program:
MSVCR110.dll), thereafter till 09/02/2016 everything worked normally.

But, on 09/02/2016, Microsoft installed a major update on my PC and again .dll files disappeared. The previous problem with
MSVCR110.dll reappeared. Why ??? Thanks to the community I could reinstall that file, but will I have to do that each time Microsoft installs a new update ???

Now also the file MSVCP100.dll is missing (that is new !!!) and the system says there is an error in c:\windows\system32\nvspcap64.dll :
    "Ontbrekende vermelding: shadowplayonsystemstart".

    QUESTIONS:

    • How can I resolve the remaining 2 problems (MSVCP100.dll +
      nvspcap64.dll )? and
    • How can I prevent that future windows10 updates cause the same problems ???
In advance, thanks for your help.

  4. Bootres.dll is corrupt and potential problems with Windows 10 update

Error: missing msvcp110.dll and msvcr110.dll with message: not designed to run on Windows or are corrupted on Windows 10 while playing Smite game

    Hi Estelito,

    Thank you for responding.

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: Unregister and re-register the msvcp110.dll and then check if you come across the issue.

    Step 1: Steps to un-register
    msvcp110.dll

    • Press Windows + R from the keyboard to open
      Run
      command.
    • Type regsvr32 /u msvcp110.dll
    • Click on OK.
    • Close the Run command window

    Step 2:
    Steps to re-register msvcp110.dll

    • Press Windows + R from the keyboard to open
      Run
      command.
    • Type regsvr32 /i msvcp110.dll
    • Click on OK.
    • Close the Run command window and check if the issue persists.

Method 2: Check if you have not deleted the msvcp110.dll file by mistake on your device.

Check for the file in Recycle bin. If found restore back.

Method 3: I suggest you to run the Microsoft Safety Scanner
    and check.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner

Also, when you perform Microsoft Safety Scanner from the link provided, data or files which are infected by malware might be beyond cleaning and have to be deleted entirely to maintain the integrity of your system, which means there might be a potential
    for data loss.

Hope it helps. Get back to us with an updated status of this issue for further assistance.
