Both CTRL keys stopped working after windows 10 updated

Yesterday I reinstalled windows 10 because it was filled with junk, after reinstalling I installed all my programs back and games which I played for a while to test out the fresh install. After doing all this I shut down my pc and updated and shut down as usual. I woke up today, turned on my pc, and I found out BOTH right and left CTRL keys aren't working anymore. Just literally stopped working overnight.I also used an ISO file from ~3 months ago, I've used it on several Virtual Machines as well and none of them had this problem.I've tried the following fixes:Reinstalling and updating the keyb

    Both CTRL keys not working

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    • Do you get any error message?
    • Did you make any changes in your computer prior to this issue?

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue.

Follow the steps below and check if that helps.

Method 1: To check if Ctrl keys work in Onscreen keyboard.

    • Press Windows Key + R and type osk and hit Enter.
Try using Ctrl keys and check if that helps.

if you still face the issue, try Method 2.

Method 2: Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with the Bluetooth adapter. Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key + X, select
      Control panel.

    • Change the view by option on the top right to
      Large icons.

    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the
view all option on the left panel.

    • Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

    • Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thanks

  3. CTRL Keys not working.

I tried all the above methods, but still it is not working. I noticed that the onscreen keyboard is working with the CTRL and also I tried connecting an external keyboard. That worked too. I don't understand how both the CTRL stopped working suddenly as
I don't even use the right CTRL much.

    CTRL Keys not working properly

    Good day!

I am currently using a LENOVO Ideapad Gaming 3 Laptop with Windows 10 installed. Around a week ago both of my CTRL keys stopped working properly.

    Steps that I have taken:

    1. CTRL keys work properly on the On-Screen Keyboard, but it is far too inefficient to use compared to the actual keyboard.

    2. I have updated the drivers in the Device Manager to their latest versions.

    3. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers in the Device Manager.

    4. I have booted the laptop in Safe Mode and the CTRL keys are still not working.

    5. I have turned off Sticky Keys.

    6. I ran the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and it told me to restart my laptop to install the necessary updates.

    7. I ran DISM and SFC. It told me that some files were corrupted and that these files have been repaired and that I needed a reboot.

    8. I ran the Keyboard troubleshooter in the Troubleshoot settings and it told me that there were no changes or updates that were necessary.

After all of these attempts to solve the problem, none of them worked.

I am sure that this is not a hardware problem because if I boot up a game that uses the CTRL key, it will begin to start working again if I alt-tab to desktop, tap CTRL, then return to the game and then spam CTRL. The CTRL key will then work properly while the game is still running, but if I close the game the CTRL keys will only work properly for a few minutes and will then stop functioning again. This is incredibly annoying as I am unable to use the CTRL keys for other purposes other than specific games.
