Windows 10: Bought a win 11 pro license in ms storefront

And had to return the pc it was attached to. I need to transfer the license to the replacement pc. How can this be done?

Win 10 RTM Core OEMM seems to give me digital license for for my Windows 11 Pro

So why did you force Windows 11 Pro to install when you had Home?

• Because I want to end up with Pro and provide it with proper license. I might have bought a bad license from a site,
  
  that claimed to be Windows 11 Professional OEM Key. I wished to tie it to my laptop so it will have a Pro license associated with it. But upon checking, it is actually Win 8 RTM Professional Retail license.
  
• If I try to activate this license via the GUI (slui.exe 3) it will say 'Windows is activated, We've activated this copy of Window' but the registered Product key in the system still show the generic key.
  
• If I try to activate this license via the command SLMGR /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx it will output error 0xc004e016 on a computer running microsoft windows non-core edition
  

Do you know the history of the PC before you bought it?

• It is first hand from factory so I doubt it has any history.
  
• The only two key I have inputted into the system is
  
  1) The key I bought from site Win 8 RTM Professional Retail
  
  2) The key I bought officially from Microsoft which is Win 10 Pro Retail Key. Interesting to note that when I input this key, the key is updated in the product key as well.
  

So I am not sure when I perform a clean installation of Windows 11 Pro, what is happening, is digital license derived from one of the key? And what is up with the inconsistency between GUI and SLMGR /ipk command?

 

Free upgrade from Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro using 10 Pro retail license

My current computer has an activated Windows 10 Pro retail license. I'm planning to replace my current computer by buying a new computer that comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Home, and then I understand I can use my 10 Pro license to upgrade to 11 Pro for free.

What's the most straightforward way of accomplishing this? The obvious approach that comes to mind involves two steps:

1. Reinstall Windows 10 Pro on new computer and activate with my existing retail license.
   
2. Upgrade new computer to 11 Pro for free through the settings.
   

Is there a simpler way of doing this without having to reinstall Windows 10? For example, would it be possible to somehow "trade in" my Windows 10 Pro license for 11 Pro? I'm fairly new to Windows licensing and am just trying to understand what is possible/best practice, with minimal effort.

 

Revert from win 11 MAK license back to OEM license.

Hi,

Recently I bought legion 5, which came with win 11 home single language version, and later my friend gave me MAK license of win 11 pro. I did activate the MAK license, but when I asked around the internet, I found that it is illegal to own MAK license if it is not provided by the company.

Can I revert back to OEM license of win 11 home after I applied the MAK license? I am afraid that the MAK license overwrote the OEM license in the BIOS.
