    Yesterday I bought a Pro license so I could upgrade my Home edition. I purchased it straight from the Microsoft Store on my computer (where I purchased the Home edition as well) and followed the on screen instructions to install it. Once it finished installing, it restarted the computer. I got back into the computer and it was telling me I need to activate windows. So I went to the activation settings and it thinks I have Windows 10 Enterprise installed. Of course I don't have a license for Enterprise. I don't need it nor did I ever choose to install it.


    Where did this come from? And how can I get my valid copy of Pro back?

    Activating Pro License

    Hello,

    Recently, I bought a new laptop and it has a licensed Home edition of windows 10. However I originally have a digital license for Pro edition connected to my account. I want to use the license on my new laptop and upgrade to Pro.

    I obtained the pro license after upgrading from windows 7 and I had it on my earlier laptop which I formatted and sold already.

    Now I am signed in with my account but it still shows Home edition but with a license linked to my account although the license is from manufacturer. How can I force it to upgrade to pro?

    The interesting question is that: the upgrade takes place before 29 of July. If I upgrade the PC (change the MB), and I transfer the Win 8.1 license to this new PC (cause 8.1 is retail FPP), will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free? Or a upgrade license must be bought?

    Hello,

    Upgrade from Home to Pro edition requires upgrade license for which you must have qualifying license installed. So IMO, if you upgrade to Pro edition from Microsoft Store, it would be upgrade license and your Home edition license is still valid.

    But if you bought seperate license for Pro edition, you need to clean install Pro edition and Home license would no longer be of your use then.
