    Boxes with no graphics

Recently when shopping, there are times/places where the pictures of the product don't show up. There will just be a box with a little thumbnail of some kind in the upper left corner. I was on Walmart the other night and some pictures showed up while others didn't. I went back the next day and didn't have the problem.

But now it just happened to me on amazon.com.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I just attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

    :)

    Hi Matthew,

We would appreciate if you could answer these questions below for better assistance:

    • Have you tried to use another browser?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • Does this happen on all social media sites?
    • What happens when you try to access Facebook using a different device?

Kindly get back to us with the answers to the questions above.

    Regards.

  3. Windows 10 graphic "run" or "start" menu has disappeared

When I click the white/purple "windows" icon in the bottom left hand corner, I no longer get the graphics box with power options, etc. Right button click produces drop down menu, however.

How do I get the graphics box back?

    Hi:

What browser (and version of that browser)?

What privacy/security add-ons/extensions are installed in the browser?
Does it happen in a different browser, too?
Does it happen on the same page, but on a different computer?
Can you please provide a URL (link) to one of the affected pages, so that we can try to reproduce the problem?

    Thanks,
    MM

Clear out all history, cookies, cached web pages, etc from your browser. You can use CCleaner to do it while the browser is closed.

What you are seeing comes from the HTML and/or CSS attributes associated with the images that are not displaying. Here's a snippet of your own graphic, slightly annotated to explain:

    Boxes with no graphics [IMG]

The little icon in the upper left corner appears when the web browser can't render the image. This can mean many things, though:
    (a) the image file hasn't finished downloading yet
    (b) the image file is corrupted or unreadable
    (c) the image file is missing or unobtainable
The text that shows up inside the box for the missing image is what the page designer provided for the "alt" (alternate text) attribute for the image to which it is attached
The outline around the outside of the box represents the image dimensions as reported in CSS and or in the height and width attributes for the <img> element in HTML.

Normally this happens when some kind of issue prevents the browser from displaying the image that belongs inside the box. It's usually something on the server side of the connection, though it can't hurt to follow other suggestions to clear out the history, cookies, and cache stuff.

    HTH,

Ed you are always the life saver. You do make it easier for everyone to understand in non-tech talk, like Microsoft tends to make it way too hard at times to figure out if the person who typed it, got lost in translation.

Chrome Version 54.0.2840.99 m I always keep my browsers up to date. Occasionally I use Firefox; not often.
I don't know if it also happens in Firefox. The next time it occurs I will go directly to Firefox and check that out.
I have another computer but again, I never booted it up and checked it out.
The next time it happens I will provide you with a link.

    Thanks for answering.

It happens when you get a poorly written website that someone did without the CSS, or your browser does not fully load the CSS. You can always check with the Developer Tools. CCleaner is the best option in this. If you are running any kind of Security software on your computer, it can mess up things also.

I use CCleaner regularly. I used it last night when all this was happening. The only thing I don't clear is cookies because when I do that, on some sites, it empties my shopping cart. I won't give a long explanation of how I shop and how this messes things up for me. As to my security, it's the same things I've used for a long time and haven't had any trouble with.

I see I did not completely answer MoxieMomma's question as to what extentions I have running. They would be: AdBlock, AdBlock Plus (possibly I should not have both of those running), Add to Amazon Wish List, Chrome Bleed, EverSync, Flash Control, Last Pass, McAfee Web Advisor, Print What You Like, Qualys Browser Check for Windows, Quick Note.

For security I use the Windows built-n firewall, Malwarebytes (paid version) and Emsisoft. Been using these two programs together for several years now with no problem. I have the free version of SuperAntiSpyware installed, but it only runs when I open it and do a scan.

Yes you have to also delete cookies, otherwise you are not going to fix the problem. A Shopping cart on a website should not be a holder of items that you may want. There is a reason why a lot of websites offer to save the cart for you, so that the inventory does not change while you are deciding.

Again, to fix the problem, you have delete everything in the browser, because one item is going to cause problems to continue.

Didn't read any of the above. Just saw the picture and it looks familiar.
I have PeerBlock on my computer, and it is the reason why this sometimes happen; I have to let it off its restrictions for a temporary amount of time, and it loads images.
If you don't have this program, then it is most likely some FireWall/AntiVirus program that you have installed that is doing this.
More complexly, your Router/Modem may have some restriction on it that causes this.

Ed has already stated why and how. It has nothing to do with router restrictions. It is because of issues with the website CSS sheet. Usually happens when you end up with a bunch of cookies that start screwing things up.
