Windows 10: Brand new Scupt keyboard missing first keystroke if I've stopped typing for a while

Hello,I had a Sculpt keyboard about 2 years ago that really started dropping keystrokes. I'd read that this is a widespread issue, and just chose to use another keyboard. I have ergo issues that are really helped by the Sculpt design, including separating the number pad. I thought since Microsoft knew about this issue that I would be safe if I bought a new one, but the new one appears to go to sleep if there is a break in typing. The first keystroke appears to wake it up--but the keystroke itself is not recorded. None of the troubleshooting appears to apply to this brand new keyboard. Th

Missing keystrokes while typing

Google is your friend. There is much discussion around keyboards missing keystrokes while typing

 

Wireless Keyboard Either Misses or Duplicates Keystrokes.

I have a new laptop, and the built-in keyboard works fine. However, every time I use an external wireless keyboard it constantly either misses the keystroked letters OR enters multiples of keystroked letters (like 20+). I've tried 3 different keyboards, all of which were brand new, with brand new batteries, and the USB receiver was less than 12 inches away. And when I tried all 3 keyboards on another laptop they all worked perfectly. So the keyboards are fine, batteries are good, distance from receiver is good, and the built in keyboard works fine, but on this one particular laptop, no external keyboard seems to work well....I am totally perplexed!

Keyboard stops working after recording one keystroke

I've tried two different corded USB keyboards now on my Desktop and both gave the same problem leading me to believe this has something to do with Windows 10 or my actual computer.

The keyboards were recognized and named correctly in "Settings>Devices>Bluetooth & other devices", and listed on device manager as "HID Keyboard devices". However, the problem I'm getting is that after plugging in the keyboard and clicking in a field that
allows me to type I can press a key and it will record that one keystroke, but afterwards it will completely stop recording anymore. I can repeat this over and over by unplugging and reconnecting the keyboard, each time only allowing one keystroke to be recorded.

Would anyone have a suggestion for how to go about troubleshooting this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, restarting, downloading new drivers, all with no luck and I'm running out of ideas.
