  1. Bright screen overlay through windows hotkey

Hello, first time here and hoping you can help me.

Fair warning, I use a Swedish version of Win10 and may not be completely accurate with official English names for technical terms.

Last night my cat walked over my laptop keyboard where Youtube was running in fullscreen. When I woke up, she had managed to exit fullscreen mode, (presumably with key f), skipped to next video on Youtube (presumably with shift+n), opened three calculators (fn+numpad_enter (specific for this computer)), and also opened the hotkey help on youtube itself (* on my keyboard, shift+? according to google), and lastly turned on FilterKeys (right shift for 8 seconds). All of these things are no big deal and easily fixable even though I had to google one or two of them.

But the darndest thing she accidentally did that I cannot find the solution for, is that now I have this transparent white overlay across the entire screen, which makes the Chrome tabs not stand out when they are active, and the highlighter in Explorer that shows which row the mouse is on isn't visible anymore, at all.

I have tried the following: I looked into high contrast mode in Windows settings and found out that was absolutely not it, I also tried recalibrating my display's gamma and brightness through the recalibration wizard. I googled for bright overlay and found this but changing the theme did not help as I was already on dark mode. I tried adjusting the brightness which did not help either.

I logged in with VNC and there, everything was looking fine. I was gonna take a snap (win+shift+s) which is when I discovered that the overlay kinda fades away and everything looks fine while the screen darkens for the snap. I then, after looking through all I could think of, tried rebooting. After rebooting, everything looked fine for a couple of seconds, and then it was as if the transparent white filter was applied again, much like a setting that got turned on or a service that took a couple seconds to start.

I am out of ideas and hope you guys can help me. Is there a hotkey my cat could have accidentally pressed to make it this way?

For reference, I am on an ASUS ROG G731GW-EV061T.

Edit: I also did not find anything related in the accessibility settings either.

  2. screen brightness on windows 10

    Hi,

Some computers can let Windows automatically adjust screen brightness based on the current lighting conditions.

To manually adjust the screen brightness, we suggest following these troubleshooting steps:

    • Click Start, then select Settings.
    • Choose System, then select Display.
    • Under Brightness and color, move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness.

Feel free to post back if you have other concern.
