Why does Microsoft believe Australian's use British keyboards on their Windows computers? Australians use the US keyboard, not the UK keyboard.However when deploying Windows with an Endpoint profile, if the English/Australia language and region are chosen and the option to have the default keyboard is selected, the UK keyboard is the input keyboard for Windows.This causes problems as the keys selected on the keyboard will bring up a different output than expected.Yes we can select the US keyboard by not having the default keyboard as the input method but wouldn't it be better if the default se

English Australian on WindowsPhone 8

Windows Phone 7, 7.5, and 8 have a continuing issue with spellchecking and autocorrect for Australia.



Even though all regional settings at configured to use English Australia and using the standard US keyboard the English language being defaulted to is English US. Australians usually use British or UK spelling moreso, and spell check reverts to English (UK)
when using a British keyboard. However by default Australians use US keyboards (having $ symbol amongst others).



By the look of it Windows Phone language is based on the keyboard used not which region you assign the phone to.



Can this be modified or brought up with the relevant team responsible... possibly incorporate it in 'Blue' if it isn't already done so.

Language/Keyboard default

Hi Sandra,

You can try these steps to set up your preferred defaults:

• Go to Settings and click Time & Language.
• Click Region & Language.
• Click on your default system language then, click Options.
• Click Add a keyboard then choose your preferred keyboard language.
• Remove the other keyboard language by choosing it then click Remove.

Tell us if this works.

 

Australian Keyboard

I have a HTC 7 Mozart from the Australian carrier Telstra, HTC or Telstra has locked the keyboard options down to "English (UK)" because I assume there is no Australia option. Is there anyway we get an Australian keyboard with a $ instead of a £ as a default
and a .com.au instead of .co.uk while keeping our words spelt correctly (eg: colour) unlike an american keyboard / dictionary.

In order to get the £ symbol you don't have to change the keyboard but the locale settings.

Go to Settings > region & language, scroll down and change the System locale to English (Australia).

Reboot is required, but after that you will have the £ on the keyboard.
