  1. Broken IPv6 DNS on trafficmanager.net affecting download.microsoft.com

HelloI just found a problem with downloading any file from download.microsoft.com even using Windows Update, when DNS resolver in my network prefers IPv6 over 4.Azure DNS servers beucase download.microsoft.com is CNAME to dlc-shim.trafficmanager.net responds with NOERROR and empty response when queried over IPv6. It can lead to huge issues. Can someone please check and possibly fix ASAP?Tested from sveral different locations in US/EU, all 4 DNS servers behaviour is sametrafficmanager.net. 85698 IN NS tm1.edgedns-tm.info.trafficmanager.net. 85698 IN NS tm2.ed

So don't change DNS but at least compare DNS servers used on the machines that work okay with those on the affected machine. For windows 10 to see settings: Change IPv4 and IPv6 DNS Server Address in Windows See Option 2 Step 6 You arrive at this screen:

Compare with what you see in Windows 11. If both W10 and W11 are set to obtain DNS server automatically then it's likely not the issue. If there's a difference and and DNS Server settings are manually set in either W10 or W11 then it could be the issue. Again, I'd suggest start with clearing your browsing data on the affected machine before trying anything else. Clear Browsing Data in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

  3. Unable to change DNS Encryption for Alternate IPv6 DNS

    Hi

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

You can try to use the command to change IPv6 DNS. The specific steps are as follows.

Enter PowerShell in the search box and open PowerShell admin.

Enter the command below into the elevated PowerShell, press Enter, and make note of the Interface Alias (such as : "Ethernet") you want to change the IPv4 or IPv6 DNS server address for.

    Get-DnsClientServerAddress

Enter the command below you want to use into the elevated PowerShell, press Enter.

Set-DNSClientServerAddress "Interface Alias" –ServerAddresses ("Preferred DNS address", "Alternate DNS address")

Substitute Interface Alias in the command above with the actual Interface Alias (ex: "Ethernet") from step above.

Substitute Preferred DNS address in the command above with the actual preferred IPv6 DNS server address you want to use for this network connection.
Substitute Alternate DNS address in the command above with the actual alternate IPv6 DNS server address you want to use for this network connection.

For example: Set-DNSClientServerAddress "Ethernet" –ServerAddresses (“2606:4700:4700::1111”,”2606:4700:4700::1001”)

You are welcome to reply to this topic, and I sincerely thank you for your support of Microsoft products and services.

  4. Broken IPv6 DNS on trafficmanager.net affecting download.microsoft.com

Cannot change DNS for IPV6 in windows 10 22h2.

Hello! My name is Cristiano. I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you.

Let's try a few troubleshooting steps. These are some general suggestions that might resolve the problem:

    1. Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can often identify and fix common network issues. To run it, go to the Start menu, type "troubleshoot settings" and open the "Troubleshoot settings" option. Then select "Network Adapter" and follow the on-screen instructions.

    2. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Try restarting both your computer and your networking devices, such as your modem and router.

    3. An outdated or incompatible network adapter driver can cause issues with changing DNS settings. Visit the website of your computer manufacturer or the network adapter manufacturer to download and install the latest driver for your network adapter.

If none of these steps resolve, let's try some more specific for changing DNS settings:

    1. Open the Network and Sharing Center: You can access this by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen) and selecting "Open Network & Internet settings." Then click on "Change adapter options" on the right-hand side.

    2. In the "Network Connections" window, find the network adapter that you're currently using. It should be labeled as "Ethernet" or "Wi-Fi" depending on your connection type.

    3. Right-click on the network adapter and select "Properties" from the context menu.

    4. In the properties window, scroll down and locate "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)." Make sure it's checked and click on it to select it.

    5. Once you've selected IPv6, click on the "Properties" button below it.

    6. In the IPv6 properties window, select the option "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the desired DNS server addresses provided by your network administrator or DNS service provider. You can enter multiple DNS server addresses by clicking on the "Add" button.

    7. Click "OK" to save the changes and close the properties window.

If you're still unable to change the DNS server for IPv6 after following these steps, there might be some underlying issues with your system or network configuration. In that case, it would be helpful to provide additional details about your network setup or consult with a local Windows expert who can analyze the issue further.

I hope these steps help you resolve the problem.
