Windows 10: Broken tile images in start menu. How to fix?

Upgraded the home computer this morning (win10 home). All was looking well until all of a sudden Paint.net starting showing half the image and shortly after, the Photos app as well. It only happens if I set the size of the tiles as small. Any idea what's going on and how to fix?

Start menu troubleshooter does not detect any problems (Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem).

Restarting explorer.exe fixes the problem temporarily (it starts happening again in 20~30 minutes).

I haven't tried uninstalling the display adapters yet. What is the purpose of this exercise? Latest nvidia drivers are installed.

I did perform a clean install last night, it worked fine for a few hours but started happening again.

I also noticed the following in the event viewer:

Good I am pleased you have done that. Microsoft needs to be aware how users are being affected by these updates.
