Q: Brother MFC-8860DN works fine over USB on old Windows 10 Pro laptop, but not on newer one, with same USB cable! Fix? PROBLEM: Bought refurbish 2019 Dell Precision 7740 laptop with Windows 10 Pro and Norton 360 Deluxe all updated and working, but cannot add my old 2007 Brother MFC-8860DN printer/scanner/fax...even though my old Dell Precision m4600 laptop with the same OS and AV can still connect and work as expected over the same USB cable. DETAILS: On the m4600, Printers and Scanners shows the "Brother MFC-8860DN USB" when either the a new or an old USB cable is connected; works fine.

Brother MFC 8860DN Drivers Installed to "other" in Device Manager

The drivers for my brother MFC 8860DN are supposed to be included in Windows 10, according to the Brother website. But the printer shows up as an "unspecified device" in the Devices and Printers screen, and as "other" in Device Manager. The troubleshoot
option is not available in Devices and Printers, and checking for updates in Device Manager just continues looping. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the device and the drivers, but I keep getting the same issues.

I am connected to printer via USB.

 

Scanner on Brother MFC-465CN refuses to run - printer works fine.

Trying to get the scanner on my Brother MFC-465CN to run, but having no luck at all.

Have tried all solutions listed on this thread (Redirecting) - but cannot get the scanner to work. Had no trouble getting the printer to work.

The Brother MFC-465CN machine is connected via USB cable to my computer. I am running Windows 10 Home - 64bit version 21H2.

• I have tried installing numerous drivers, checking the scanner after each installation, without success
  
• tried running setup programs normally, as well as in 'Compatibility mode' (compatible with Windows 7 - as well as running them as Admin.)
  
• tried disabling my firewall
  
• tried keeping the machine off & unplugged until just before driver was installed
  

Any new help or suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Installiing Brother MFC-7820N on Windows 10 Pro Thinkpad T14 Laptop

I have an Ethernet network in my home. Until recently I had two computers (Windows 7 Pro SP1) tower, and a Lenovo Thinkpad E430 desktop (came with Windows 7 Pro but I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, now running Windows version 21H1). I have two printers on the network. One is a Brother MFC 7820N (a laser printer), and the other is an Epson WF-7010 injket. Both computers can access each of the printers. I never had any problems setting up either printer. I recently added a Lenovo Thinkpad T14 laptop. It is also running Windows 10 Pro 21H1. I was able to install the Epson WF-7010 printer drivers, and it works just fine. But I have spent over a hour trying to install the drivers for the Brother MFC-7820 N, with no success. First, I have unchecked the option to let Windows manage my default printer. On the Printers and Scanners screen->Add printer-> install the printer driver, the Brother printer does not appear. I have to run Windows Update, and then it appears. Then I select the correct printer, and the screen says "the printer will be installed with the Brother MFC-7820N USB Printer driver. Then it starts to install, but then I get an error message saying "The printer driver was not installed." I have tried with the printer turned on, and turned off. No difference. I cannot find anything on the Lenovo site that addresses this issue. I have the CD installation disk from when I installed the drivers on my other two computers, but Windows 10 will not access it. The Brother website states that the drivers for Windows 8 on are included with Windows. Yet the driver which this procedure wants to install was created in 2004! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem? I tried searching the internet for MFC-7820N drivers, but haven't found anything other than the Brother notice. Harry
