Windows 10: Brother printer MFC-6490CW fails to connect after Win10 updates

I posted this on a printers forum an hour ago but decided here may be more relevant. My apols for parts of this "Printer forum" post that may not be relevant here...This is driving me bonkers :This Brother machine has worked perfectly for years... then suddenly no longer. I am pointing the finger at Win10 updates.I have used only the WiFi connection method. Never failed... until now.I have 2 newish Lenovo laptops and a desktop I've just finished building from scratch with all brand new bits. I installed the Brother software on all 3 PCs and the printer/scanner to a fixed IP of 10.1.1.3

Brother MFC-6490CW compatable with Win 10

Win 10 now has the drivers for this printer and I now have no problems setting this printer up. This issue was addressed some time ago.

Hi I have a Brother MFC-6490CW printer which I love. I have not been able to get it working on Win 10. Is this going to be a problem with older printers or will they not be supported?

I am running Win 10 and loving it.

Brother MFC J6720DW listed with strange icon in Devices and Printers

I have reinstalled the drivers for my Brother MFC J6720DW and now the printer icon is listed in the unspecified category instead of the printer category. The printer is the "Device" icon to the right.





Right clicking on the icon shows the usual items for a printer (printing properties etc.), In addition it shows a "Browse Files" entry that lists the card reader of the printer.





To the left of the Brother printer icon there is another similar one that seems to be my USB card reader

 

Brother printer still can not be connected

My Brother MFC-6490CW has not worked since the May-June security update. I am running Windows 10 2004 version and am seriously in the need for someone to tell me how to get my printer working again. The 1909 and 2004 patches suggested both return a "not
suitable for your system " reply.
