Windows 10: Browser Assistant Trojan

Believe that I've managed to remove the Browser Assistant Trojan but have been left with a Windows Installer message at start up, This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exist and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package. Does the message indicate that the trojan hasn't been removed? If the trojan is gone, how do I determine that the Installer message is related to the trojan and how can it be removed?

Browser Trojan virus

When launching the MSN browser a Trojan virus pops up saying it is from Microsoft and please call this number.

If you're having issues with setting a default browser, it can be due to some changes in the configuration settings. To assist you with your concern, we recommend that you set your preferred browser as the default by following the steps listed below:

• Type Settings in the Search bar and press
  Enter.
  
• Choose System then click on Default apps.
  
• Scroll down, and click Set defaults by app option.
  
• Click on your preferred browser, then click Choose defaults for this program.
  
• Click Select all, then Save.
