BSOD after enabling multi-GPU in BIOS

My Dad runs a dual-boot Win 8 / Win 10 system. He uses Win 8 most of the time and Win10 is just for his flight sim, which he doesn't have a lot of time for so he doesn't boot into that very often.

Anyway, he asked me about using Zoom virtual background without a physical green screen and the criteria on Zoom's website indicated that it might work with his system with Win 10 with the Intel IGP enabled. He has an AMD RX 570 GPU which he uses normally. So, following my instructions, he enabled the Multi-GPU option in his Z97-A BIOS (with that disabled the IGP is disabled and doesn't show up in Device Manager if there's a discrete card plugged in) and now Win 8 Device Manager shows both the Intel 4600 IGP and the AMD RX 570 GPU but when he tries to boot into Win 10 he just gets a BSOD which he says refers to winload.exe.

I wouldn't have thought enabling the IGP could trigger a winload.exe BSOD but as I say, he doesn't boot into Win 10 very often so he probably hasn't touched it since I was last at his house and booted it fine and he won't have installed any strange software into it.

The dual-boot is using grub4dos, so I'm wary about running any automatic startup repair (although he says he tried this before phoning me) or manually doing fixmbr as that will probably wipe the grub4dos MBR and then he won't even be able to boot into Win8!

Is it likely that the Win10 BCD has somehow got corrupted? If so, I could try using BootICE or EasyBCD from Win8 to try and repair the Win10 BCD.

    :)

  2. having issues with multi GPU

I’m trying to offload certain apps to my iGPU on the second screen, using the new graphics settings in the recent win 10 release. the issue is it’s only showing my 1070. lists it as both power saving GPU, and
    high performance GPU.

I’ve been fiddling for a while now with no joy, and i’m really hoping one of you guys has an idea they can suggest to sort this!

I can extend onto the second screen no probs with it plugged into the iGPU, but the 1070 is still listed as both power saving GPU and high performance GPU.

Are there requirements for this? certain level of iGPU for it to work?

    Thanks

Edit - setting the secondary screen connected to the iGPU to be the "main" display in graphics settings makes my iGPU show as both power saving and high performance GPU, I just can't seem to get them
to be one and not the other.

BSOD after enabling multi-GPU in BIOS

BSOD when trying to enable integrated graphics and dedicated GPU

    I am on a fresh install of windows 10 x64 build 1809

I have an AMD 2400G and RX 570 on an ASrock AB350 board. I want to have my primary display monitor plugged into the 570 and the 2nd monitor plugged into the motherboard display to use the iGPU. I had no problem doing this years ago on win 8.1 and an old APU.

The display driver for both gpus is the same file from AMD support. I updated to the latest chipset driver from AMD and am on a recent BIOS version that supports the CPU.

If I pull the 570 card out of my system and just plug into the onboard it displays fine. But if I force enable the iGPU in BIOS windows boots into a BSOD. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and it lists the file atikmdag.sys which I think is what crashed.

So I know there is nothing faulty with the CPU and the display driver for each GPU alone, but something is preventing them from being used at the same time. So far I have not gotten any help on the AMD support or ASrock support forums so I am hoping someone here will be able to shed some light on this issue.

to clarify this I meant to say if I reinstall the 570 and force enable the onboard graphics windows boots to BSOD. when I'm asking them both to operate together I get the BSOD. I even tried booting with nothing plugged into the iGPU while it is force enabled but still the same BSOD. The other options in BIOS are auto and disabled, but auto disables the iGPU anyway when a dedicated GPU is present, even if there is a monitor plugged into the motherboard display out.
