Windows 10: BSOD after plugging in Xbox Controller via a USB C Cable.

Hello, so i was just plugging in my Xbox Controller via a USB C cable when an error BSOD named DEVICE\_POWER\_STATE\_FAILURE popped up. It didn't happen instantly but could this be related to the Xbox Controller or a faulty cable? Xbox controller USB cable problem (PC) Win10

Hi All,

I'm having a very strange issue with my controller to PC situation. It will only work with one micro USB cable.

I was using the controller the evening before, did not turn the PC off and in the morning the light had turned off and it was unresponsive and no longer "connected" in device manager.

PC is pretty high end -

Strix B550 Mobo, Ryzen 5800x, Nvidia 3080ti.

Main controller is a Power A Fusion Pro wired controller with mappable paddles with a USB extension wire to keep the controller cable from being stressed where it plugs in.

Diagnosis steps taken.

Unplug and replug controller from the PC.

Unplug and replug controller without the extension from the PC.

Unplug and replug cord from the controller end.

Restart PC.

Checked drivers are up to date.

Full turn off, wait, then turn on PC.

Plugged it in to my Xbox One, and it didn't power on.

Tried downloading drivers to manually install but it needed the controller to be recognised as connected by the PC.

Changed power off settings for USB devices.

Tried two different ways of resetting the controller using button sequences - these worked on the controller but it still was not recognised as connected by the PC.

Then some sort of success - I tried different USB cables, including ones from original Xbox controllers that had died years ago, mobile phones and lastly a PDP mini controller that my little girl uses - this one worked. I then tried the various cables in her controller and none worked in hers but the original PDP cable either.

I basically have one cable that works with the controllers in the PC - when all of the cables are working cables (apart from maybe the original Power A cable, but this has a wider end so doesn't fit the PDP controller to test).

Is this an issue anyone else has encountered and solved?
