    BSOD after upgrading 7/8/10 to Windows 10 V1607 => 0xc000021a

I am upgrading some machines, most go without a hitch but some have a mysterious BSOD.

I attached the dumps of a Windows 8 machine, i use MDT to upgrade to Windows 10 v1607 + do windows updates. BSOD happens after the first real boot (which means upgrade + updates have been done)

    Attachment 111266

Already tried swapping the disk in a very simular machine (same model, different bios) but the problem follows the disk.

Anyone who can help me or point me in the right direction?

EDIT: Something i forgot, these systems still boot in Safe mode! Tried cleanboot but no luck.

    :)

  2. Restore to factory created bsod

Last night I followed directions to reset to factory settings before rehoming my computer. I am getting the BSOD with error 0xc000021A. I don't know what to do. Originally had windows 7 - upgraded to 10. Don't have disks.

  3. WIN 10

Is this the Feature Update to Version 1607, and after it installs it announces it is rolling back to old version?

Check at Start>Settings>System>About if you have Version 1607. If not I would Upgrade to
    Windows 10 v1607 manually
    .

Before running the Upgrade over itself, optimize the install following
    Overcoming Windows 10 Upgrade Failures.

If this is another Update it's having problems with, try running the
    Windows Update Troubleshooter.

If that doesn't help then everything else is here for
    Windows Updates fail to install in Windows 10 / 8 / 7
    ,

As a last resort you can run the
Windows Update Reset script for Windows 10
    .

Hello and welcome to TenForums *Smile

The error seems to be related to a problem with the session manager initialisation.

Code: WINLOGON_FATAL_ERROR (c000021a) The Winlogon process terminated unexpectedly. Arguments: Arg1: ffffde8e0026d0b0, String that identifies the problem. Arg2: 00000000c0000022, Error Code. 2: kd> da ffffde8e0026d0b0 ffffde8e`0026d0b0 "Session Manager Initialization" [/quote] If you can boot into safe mode please try to run the system file checker and repair the system files. It might also be worth running a disk check with repair as well.

Are there any differences in the BIOS settings for the laptops and PC which end up not booting? I am thinking of things like legacy versus UEFI boot or possibly the way the disk mode is set (AHCI or IDE).
