BSOD: Critical system error after a system restore. Safe mode nonfunctional. 0x80070002...

Hello,I have an decade old and ailing gaming computer that is suffering from a Critical Process Died error after I had performed a system restore to reset the drivers for a Wacom drawing tablet that had stopped being detected as a monitor. The computer was working until it was shut down and restarted.I have tried deleting the drivers with this thread as guidance, but they persist after I had tried to delete them. because I do not know how to restart?https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-uninstall-a-driver-from-winre-command/acc5a62d-48d9-4fa1-a098-c494db8c9f6fAutomatic

    Error 0x80070002 while System Restore

    Hi,

To resolve this issue, we suggest that you start your PC in safe mode and check if you are able to perform System Restore. For steps on how to start your PC in safe mode, refer to the following link:

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10
    .

If you are not able to reach the sign-in screen, let's start your PC in safe mode from the recovery screen. After three failed reboot attempts, Windows goes into recovery mode. Follow the steps below:

    • Select Repair your computer.
    • On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot >
Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • After your PC restarts, select 5 or F5 to restart you PC in Safe Mode with Networking.

While in safe mode, we recommend that you use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files. For steps on how to run the System File Checker tool, check the following link:

Use the System File Checker tool
    .

Let's also scan your computer for any infection using Windows Defender or your antivirus software while in safe mode.

Let us know how it goes for us to assist you further.

  3. Critical process died bsod on startup after system restore

    Recently had a power outage which appears to have corrupted some windows system files. At first I was getting hard crashes after a few minutes of being logged in. I did a system restore and that has made the problem worse. Now I get a bsod with the "critical process has died" error. Booting in safe mode also gets the bsod error screen. So far I have followed these steps;

    1) system restore (which caused the bsod loop)

    2) run sfc /scannow. This returned a "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

    3) chkdsk did not find any errors

    4) DISM (checkhealth, scanhealth and restorehealth) returned an error 50

5)attempting to run a DISM refresh returned an error 2

    6) Attempted to reset the PC via the troubleshooting boot menu but it is failing to reset regardless of what options I choose.

At this point I'm pretty sure my only option is to do a fresh reinstall of windows but I do not have a disk drive, a Windows disk, a USB, or the ability to create one since this bricked computer is my only windows device. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

    System Restore Error 0x8007005

    Hello CASHFLOW1,

To resolve your concern with System Restore Error 0x8007005, I suggest that you
boot your PC in safe mode first before performing the System Restore. Safe mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services to help troubleshoot issues. To do so, please follow these steps:

    • Open Settings.
    • Select Update & security.
    • Open Recovery.
    • Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
    • After the PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
    • Click Advanced options.
    • Under Startup Settings, hit Restart.
    • After the PC restarts, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
Note: If a problem doesn't reappear when you start your PC in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings, basic device drivers and services as possible causes.

Furthermore, you may also consider disabling your Anti-virus software temporarily before performing the System Restore.

Should you need further assistance, feel free to get back to us.
