Windows 10: Bsod driver_power_state_failure

Have been getting the BSOD on my Dell XPS 12 9250. A while back, posted on Microsoft Community with dumps and updated some drivers. I am still getting BSOD DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE mostly when the laptop resumes. Sometimes Bluetooth mouse and Bluetooth stops working after reboot. Restarting again restores Bluetooth.

When shutting down get bsod after 5 min then shuts down

A BSOD greeted me when I turned it on this morning, with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Although restarting made it work again, this is still rather worrying.

 

The latest dump indicates a problem with igdkmd64.sys.

I suggest trying the newer one for the XPS 13. If you look at Other versions under Video you'll see 20.19.15.4483 as the immediate predecessor so the video chipset is the same as on the XPS 12.

 

I tried to install that one. It would not install. Not correct for this model.

 

That is probably a check in the install code (setup.exe). If you want, you could try updating the driver via Device Manager, bypassing the setup.exe.

Unzip 9350_Video_Driver_JVM17_WN32_20.19.15.4531_A07.EXE to it's own folder. I do this using 7-zip.
Open Device Manager
Expand Display adapter
Right click on the Intel device and select Update driver software
Click on Browse my computer for driver software
Select the folder you extracted the files content to. In my case it's D:\Temp\9350_Video_Driver_JVM17_WN32_20.19.15.4531_A07Select the Graphics folder and click on OK
Click Yes or OK as need to install the driver

I know this sounds hokey but it should work. If not, you'll just get another error message and we can forget about trying to update to this driver version.
