Windows 10: BSOD During Win 10 Update (1709 to 1803) w/ Thread Exception N Handled

Hello,

When I try to install the 1803 update, it downloads fine, initializes fine, but during reboot, it reaches 30%, reboots and then hangs with a BSOD - Thread Exception Not Handled (without any more info). I tried using the Windows Update MiniTool, which succeeded with one security update, but then failed with the 1803. (It asked for a reboot, then the install didn't continue during the reboot.) WUMT did give me a little more info in the update history, though:





I had this same issue with the fall update, requiring me to reinstall Windows 10 fresh, which I don't want to have to do again (or with every bleeping major Windows update). Help would be greatly appreciated!

(As I am posting this, I am trying to let WUMT update again, with fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for good. luck*092)

SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED BSoD with lsi sas2i.sys when updateing from Windows 10 1709 to Windows 18 1803.

Whenever I try to update from windows 10 1709 to Windows 10 1803, I receive the following BSoD:

SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

lsi sas2i.sys

Once the system recovers and reboots back into the old Windows 10 1709, I get this error pop up stating the the installation of Windows 10 has failed:

0xC1900101 - 0x20017

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation

My computer is a new build and had the above mentioned BSoD when attempting to install Windows 1803 onto a clean boot disk, with no OS on it. I gave up on 1803 and went back to installing 1709. This installed without a hitch and my computer is running perfectly
now on Windows 10 1709.

I do have a LSI 2308 card installed. However, I use this card purely to provides more ports than the 6 disks on the Motherboard (A Gigabyte Aorus X470 Gaming 7). I have 9 disks on my computer and all are essential to my system. I CANNOT loose or replace this
LSI card.

I have four SSD disks, however none of them are Intel based. They are all Samsung.

Any ideas how to get around this issue?

Before we proceed on doing other troubleshooting steps, have you tried the steps suggested by
"Marc Cai" in this thread? We also suggest that you try to
use the Windows Update Troubleshooter and see if it helps.

The System Thread Exception Not Handled error in Windows mostly occur due to incompatible or old graphics card drivers. System Thread Exception Not Handled error is often displayed along with the Blue Screen of Death

I suggest you to boot into Safe Mode environment and update your graphic drivers.

Method 1: Update drivers.

I suggest you to update graphic drivers and check if it helps. Follow the steps given below.

• Press Windows key + X key and click on
  Device manager.
• Search for Display Adapters.
• Right-click on the graphics
  card and click on Update driver software.

You may also download the latest graphic drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install them on your computer.

If the issue still persist, I suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check.



Method 2:



Follow the steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode.

• Download the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right-click on the installer and click on "Properties".
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select previous Operating System from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.
