    BSOD following KB5001330 update

While resetting PC, an update was automatically applied, despite my system being configured to apply only after my approval.

My PC never started again, but is instead stuck in an endless BSOD loop with Stop code: "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED".

Based on the CBS.log file, it seems as though the update failed to complete.

    I've made several attempts to:

    1. 'Perform 'Automatic Repair
      1. Fails
    2. Delete last update in Safe Mode
      1. The 'Settings' 'Windows Update' page does not come up, but instead we see looping dots.
      2. No Update History available so I am not exactly sure which update was applied, but can only assume because of the timing
      3. No options for installing or uninstalling Update is available
    3. Perform System Restore comes back as successful, but PC starts back at same BSOD page

    My System:

    OS Name: Windows 10 Enterprise

    OS Build: 18362.19h1_release.190318-1202

    OS Version: 10.0.18363

    System Type: x64-based PC

    Processor: IntelR CoreTM i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3499 Mhz, 4 Cores, 4 Logical Processors

    BIOS Version/Date: American Megatrends Inc. P2.10, 5/12/2015

    BIOS Mode: Legacy
    BaseBoard Manufacturer: ASRock
    BaseBoard Product: Z97 Extreme4

    BSOD- atikmpag.sys

This is most likely due to an installation/upgrade error with ATI driver's. I suggest doing DriveSweeper and the following:
    • Drivesweeper all drivers & in Safe Mode
    • Unistall all drivers that aren't used in DriveSweeper (CCC Profiler Updates, MSI AfterBurner, anything related to ATI that use's it's drivers.)
    • After you do this, the first thing you need to do is go into Device Manager and Unistall your ATI Drivers

Once your done, restart the PC and then try installing the latest drivers.

I had several issues with this in the past, but I overcame it with logical reasoning and whenever I have a driver issue, I just use these steps and I always overcome the problem.

    Best of luck! *Toast :toast:

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond BSOD following KB5001330 update :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

    error following an update

    Hi Patricia,

Thank you for using Windows 10.

The error code suggests the issue to be of Windows Updates. I suggest you to
Run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool which fixes the Windows corruption error if there are any. Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows+X.

    • Click on Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
      and hit Enter.
If the issue still persists, then let us know and we'll be glad to help.
