Windows 10: BSOD - How do I retrieve Windows Key from an old SSD drive?

My 11 year old computer will not boot due to "Bad System Config Info". I've tried System Restore, tried Resetting This PC, tried restarting in safe mode but no joy. I have just completed a new pc build with an Intel i7 13700 and a Z790 motherboard and would like to install Windows 11 on to it. How do I retrieve the Windows 10 product key? It is on a 2.5" sata SSD and I have a SSD external enclosure that I have used to gain access to my non-Windows files using a laptop.And if I can retrieve the W10 key, can I use it to upgrade to W11? Do I boot W11 on the new machine and use the W10 product key

Re-using an old SSD with windows on it

Hey guys,

So I currently have a 128GB ssd with windows 7 professional 64-bit and a tone of drivers on it. I was going to have it in my new build but I wasn't able to go more than 5 minutes without getting a BSOD. I attempted to remove all the drivers I could but the issue persisted and I just had a new copy of window installed on a different SSD.

With the SSD just sitting here, my friend has decided to put together a new build and I figured that he could use the SSD and the copy of windows on it. The only issue is that I had lost the windows key and so if I uninstalled it would not be able to re-activate it. I was told that you could use a program to retrieve the windows key being used for your system and I was wondering if this is actually possible?

 

Z Book BSOD with Second SSD Drive

Hi all

I have an issue with an HP Z Book. It is a new Generation 6 device and came with a pre-installed second SSD drive.

All worked fine until I tried to put our corporate image onto the primary OS SSD.

Firstly, the new OS installed onto the secondary SSD rather than the primary.

So I disconnected/removed the secondary, recreated the partition on the primary and loaded our stock OS.

The machine now works absolutely fine, as long as I do not try to re-introduce the second SSD drive.

If I reinstall this, the machine boots up OK for a second or two and then BSOD's.

Can anyone suggest the reason for this issue - the BSOD message reported a kernel error.

Any ideas on steps to take to resolve this?

Upgrading HP SSD drive on HP 750-524

I purchased an HP Envy tower with a 128Gb SSD which is where Windows is installed, I have purchased a new 1TB SSD drive that I would like to replace the 128 GB drive with. My machine did not come with the Windows 10 Media, what steps do I need to take before
I install the new drive and install windows.

• Where do I get the Windows 10 install
• What steps are needed to create an Install disk
• Do I have to deactivate my old install before removing the old drive.

Please let me know if there are any other considerations.
