  1. BSOD + Locked out from Recovery Environment due to password

Recently I've been facing a 0xc000021a code and noticed that I am locked out of Recovery Environment since Windows asked for a password for my account. Now, I understand I cannot access RE since my local account was created through my MS account and I have done several possible actions to try and repair my PC.Here's a list of what I had done:- Accessing ASUS BIOS to see if there is a way for me to perform a reset/a repair. No result.- Restarted my laptop three times to see if I could access RE. No result.- Tried EVERY options from Advanced Boot Options, this includes Start Windows Normally an

  2. Stuck in Recovery Environment; password is not being accepted

I just wanted to do a quick update + restart to my desktop PC today but when I did I got stuck in the recovery environment. It seems I'm stuck in it and can't get back to my normal Windows (I tried launching in safe mode too).

    Possible causes?

    • Windows update problem
    • I installed many drivers a few days ago via Driver Booster 10 and only restarted now
    • I had low space (~3GB left on my boot drive)
    • Memory issues I had a bit ago (BSODs I had related to MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error code, if relevant)

My immediate thoughts was to use the option to uninstall the latest Windows update but when I try, it prompts my for my Microsoft password. I tried all the ones I knew and surely I chose the right one during the process (I'm guessing), but either way, I reset my Microsoft password but it still won't accept the new one (I made sure to look at the input, my keyboard is working fine. I also verified that it's the same as logging in on the web). I restarted the PC and it's been connected to the Ethernet so I assume it should update the password it's looking for to the new password?

Nearly every option in the menus apart from resetting my PC, UEFI, and safe mode seem to be locked behind this password that won't work. I am lost currently, so I am wondering:

    1. Is there a way to get the password to work? (Do I NEED my old password or can it recognize the new one?)
    2. Is there a way to stop this password requirement for the future in recovery mode? (I checked and my laptop's recovery environment doesn't require a password)

I would really prefer not resetting my PC because I have unbacked up data I wouldn't like to lose.

Also, I thought of using a USB recovery for Windows, but I don't have access to a 16+GB flash drive currently. This option is still possible, but preferably if other steps don't work.

BSOD + Locked out from Recovery Environment due to password

New Microsoft password rejected in the Recovery Environment

It's not just system restore that will ask for a password, almost all the recovery environment's troubleshooting options require you to give the password of a local administrator account before letting you proceed. You problem is that while you have changed your MS account password, the local account password hasn't changed.

I'm not sure how you'd go about changing the local account password while it is linked to your MS account. You may be able to switch to a local account, change the password to match the one you used for the MS account, then switch it back to an MS account. I don't use an MS account, so I can't test that for you.

What I can suggest is that you create a new local administrator account just for maintenance purposes and never link it to a MS account. Apart from anything else, it's always a sensible precaution to have a second administrator in case of problems signing in to your original one. When booting to any Advanced Start Up option that requires a password you can choose this local account instead, then you will know for certain which password to use.
