BSOD MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION during every game

Hello everyone. So I´ve had this PC for a year now, recently I´ve been getting Blue screens with this "Machine check exception code" it happened once then nothing for a while. Then it happened again, more and more often and as of today I cant play video games anymore cause it happened 4 times already.

I´ve done some research and people are saying that it´s driver related so I updated drivers that I found in my mother boards downloads on the MSI site. I also updated the bios to the latest version that is there using a flashdrive, but Ive checked after it completed and it says that the version of my bios is C.C0. That´s not the name of the latest version on the website. Im very confused. My temperatures while gaming have been consistent the whole time. And I´ve been doing all types of scans and checks of my hard drive for a while because I suspected it of causing loading stutter in games in the past.

I would appreciate any suggestions of what could be wrong. Thank you very much!

Specs:

CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600 CPU @ 3.30GHz

Graphics - MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G, 8GB GDDR5

Motherboard: MSI B150 PC MATE - Intel B150

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2133

Power supply: Be quiet! Pure Power L8 500W

Storage: Kingston HyperX Savage - 240GB
WD Blue EX - 1TB WD10EZEX

I´ll gladly provide any additional information needed

:)

Getting MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION bluescreen error while playing Dota 2 game

Old title: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

Hi,

I have been playing a game called 'Dota 2' for a while. I had a Macbook Pro before I had this laptop and the game ran perfectly on my mac. I switched over to a new MSI Windows 8.1 laptop a while ago and re-downloaded Dota 2 on it. It happens randomly when
I'm playing the game, but my whole computer will freeze for a few seconds making a loud buzzing noise and then goes to a blue screen that says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. This doesn't happen all the time, it only happens when I am playing Dota 2 and I've had
this issue, mostly every time I play the game.

This is my system info:

BSOD MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION during every game

A Machine Check Exception bugcheck indicates an unrecoverable hardware error.

First, please ensure that if you were overclocking your CPU (or any other component) that you have now reset it to defaults.

After that I would suggest you start by checking both your RAM and CPU.

To test your CPU, use Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool:

UEFI Version (boot from usb stick): Link

Windows Version: Link

To test your RAM use memtest86+ and let it run for 8+ passes. I'd suggest running this over night.

As for the crash dumps you posted I see that basically every crash had the following thread stack:

Code: nt!KeBugCheckEx hal!HalpMcaReportError+0xf5 hal!HalpMceHandlerWithRendezvous+0x12b hal!HalHandleMcheck+0x40 nt!KxMcheckAbort+0x7b nt!KiMcheckAbort+0x1ac (TrapFrame @ fffff803`38c4ee70) intelppm!MWaitIdle+0x18
"intelppm" is Windows' Intel Processor driver, it is part of the core system, and likely indicates a CPU failure.

I also saw that you are using MSI's Super Charger driver (NTIOLIB_X64.sys). I would suggest at least temporarily removing that program to rule it out as a source of issues with your motherboard.

Thank you so much for replying guys. I uninstalled MSI supercharger and after burner, even though I wasn't overlocking anything but just to be sure. I downloaded memtest and the CPU test, I'll run the CPU one after work and memtest over night. I'll update later.

I changed to english and ran to program again so new logs are attached

If it indeed is a CPU failure, will it need replacing?

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

1) sfc /scannow

2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

3) chkdsk /scan

4) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

5) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting.

6) Sometimes there are problems in the bios that produce bsod.

7) To ensure that there are no improper bios settings please reset the bios.

8) Sometimes there can be failure to boot after resetting the bios.

9) So please make sure your files are backed up.

10) Please make a backup image with Macrium:

Macrium Software | Your Image is Everything

11) And please create a brand new restore point.

12) When testing for WHEA hardware errors we need to systematically check CPU, GPU, memory and drive.

Some testing was already done but there may have been overclocking and there were no images posted in the thread.

Once the bios is reset and there is no overclocking:

13) Choose one of the temperature monitoring software applications: Speecy, HW monitor, Speed fan:

19) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes.

This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.

Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.

The testing is done not by time but by passes.

The more passes the better.

There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.

A false negative is a pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.

There is 16 GB of RAM on the computer.

Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM

Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.

Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.

Again the more passes the better.

If both RAM pass when tested 1 at a time after failing when tested together test the next DIMM with 1 RAM module for 8 or more passes. This will help to differentiate malfunctioning RAM from malfunctioning DIMM /Motherboard.

9. Please uninstall Daemon Tools and MSI Afterburner. These tools are known for causing bluescreens too.

Can you provide us with the kernel memory dump please? Its located in C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP.
You can upload it to an cloud service like dropbox or onedrive.

Memory dump debugging displayed Nvidia graphics as the misbehaving driver: nvlddmkm.sys

The best way to fix the misbehaving Nvidia driver is to uninstall everything Nvidia using Display driver uninstaller and install new drivers from the computer manufacturer's website or from the Nvidia website.

The computer manufacturer's web site is preferred.

Enter the computer's serial or product number and the operating system to view available drivers.

If you use the Nvidia web site be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the graphics driver and the physx driver.

If the problem still persist after reinstalling the NVIDIA driver you should go back and still have an focus on the processor. Use Prime to stress test the CPU and have a look at the temperatures at the same time.

Analysis of MEMORY.DMP still shows problems with the CPU when having a closer look at the stack and the FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:

Code: MEMORY.DMP 0x0000009C: [SPECIAL] MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (27.08.2017 23:17:20) [Windows 10] CAUSED BY: GenuineIntel_STACKPTR_ERROR_intelppmMWaitIdle * Intel Processor driver * => Drivers & Software also at nvlddmkm.sys [22.08.2017] * nVidia Video drivers * => Download Drivers | NVIDIA PROCESS: System Usual causes: Hardware error (similar to STOP 0x124)
I uninstalled the drivers and did a clean install of new ones, Im gonna go test it now

I also ran Prime but I didnt know how long to leave it, it seemed to get to a temperature point and just stayed there (image attached)
Once it got going it stayed at 61 degrees, jumping to 62 for a moment sometimes. Core 2 stayed at the same temp of 58

Prime95 can be run indefinitely.
See the blue section in this link:
Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

Minimum testing time that we use is 45 minutes but 3 hours is a substantially better test. And the longer the testing time the more reliable or useful the test results.

The test time was approximately 13 minutes.
Maximum temperature displayed on the image was 67 degrees C.
