    BSOD on cold start up


    Hi

    The BSOD, that happens on a cold start up (when the computer has been turned off overnight) has been happening on random occasions ever since I built the computer. I've reinstalled windows, twice. I had thought it might be a hardware issue and have checked each stick of memory with memcheck for about 5 hours each - no errors. Overclocked my i7-6700K to 4.4Ghz and ran prime95 (only for a few minutes though) and no errors (although errors at 4.5Ghz but no BSOD). Back now to defaults.

    I have recently reset the bios and thinking this may have resolved the problem, seemed to be running fine so I deleted previous dmp files.

    DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    I updated my Bios driver to latest.

    I could no longer boot, "BootMgr is missing". After searching the boards and troubleshooting, the bios had changed the hard drive to boot from. I was able to successfully boot up into Win10.

    Cold start continued to produce BSOD, as before.

    Following Team ZigZag suggestions, rename Pnp680.sys to *.bak, resolved BSOD and now cold start and warm start smoothly into Win10.

    No problem, there must plenty of requests for help. At the moment all seems ok. But these BSOD only occur on startup from cold... and might not see one for a few days then will get 2 or 3 on consecutive days. Did the dmp file show anything? I read on a forum that someone enabled secure boot and that seemed to solve the problem.

    Please run in an admin command prompt following command
    Code: slmgr /dlv[/quote] a pop-up will show within a few moments, please make a screenshot of it and post it.

    Before I do, windows is installed on a Samsung nvme m.2 SSD. Is it ok to run these test on that drive. Also got 2 HDDs for storage.

    Ok, just read HD tune can be used on SSDs but not seatools.

    SeaTools is specifically made for HDDs, though it doesn't support all HDD models. All other tests can be used on all storage types *Smile

    Here are the results of the test
    HDtune couldn't check the heath of the samsung m.2 drive but I guess from the other tests all is OK. I didn't check the HDDs because I just use them for storage. Could check them if you wish though.
