  1. BSOD on startup and when trying to update windows on second boot

So using the program unlocker I was able to delete the USBCharger.sys on next reboot. Except it messed with my other usb drivers somehow and when the system rebooted none of the usb ports worked and I could not use the keyboard. After shutting down the system and restarting it would either go to a no signal screen after bios splash screen or boot into windows with no usb ports working. Using the f11 key I was able to do a startup repair but it put the USBCharger.sys file back so now I can boot into windows and use the usb ports again but I'm back to square one. I tried another windows upgrade just for the hell of it but got the same wdfs01000 error as before

*I did not see your post about autoruns before so I will go ahead and try that. Not sure why deleting the USBCharger.sys messed with my other usb ports tho

  2. I have been getting a BSOD with my Zotac AQ01 mini PC when starting up from a cold boot and when I have tried to update windows. The BSOD does not occur every time on startup, it appears to be Random. It does happen every time I try and update windows to a newer version during the phase when it reboots multiple times during the updating process. I use this pc as my htpc for movies and I fell behind updating it so its still on windows 10 version 1511 I have tried multiple things to fix this

    1. Checked for missing drivers or the yellow triangle notifications in device manager
    2. Ran sfc/scannow chkdsk on C: drive and the DISM restore health / repair commands. Did not get any errors
    3. Turned off windows firewall, wireless adapter and unplugged the usb wireless receiver for logitech keyboard when trying to update, Still got BSOD. There was nothing plugged into any of the USB slots.

Here is the BSOD I get when trying to update windows

I do not currently have a dmp file for crashes on startup but I know it contains the same crash address Wdf01000.sys and bug check string thread exception not handled. In the past it was infrequent and most of the time I just left the pc on anyways so it wasn't a big deal. I have decided I want to find out what is the cause of the BSOD so I can update it to a newer windows version.

    :)

  3. Windows 10 BSOD. Crash in NtfsDeleteScb function

Thank you for your reply. Over the last month I've collected more info.

    1. I'm not overclocking my laptop

    2. Memtest finds no errors, but shows a warning "RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips" (according to their site most of the RAM modules have this issue)

    3. I've tried to run verifier. When I've selected all non-Microsoft drivers and rebooted, I could barely see ASUS logo during startup (boot - 1 second - reboot). No BSODs or Minidumps have appeared, it was just rebooting. Then I've decided to select a bunch
    of drivers.

First try: BSOD (during startup) vmci.sys -> removed Vmware Player

Second try: BSOD VBoxNetAdp6.sys -> removed VirtualBox

Third: BSOD nvvad64v.sys. This is an NVIDIA driver, I though that removing GPU driver is not a good option.

Just in case, I've removed Kaspersky and I've tried to run verifier again. Still cannot boot, still BSOD nvvad64v.sys

    4. Here are all the minidumps:
    Link

UPDATE: After all those verifier tests my machine cannot wake from sleep: I press sleep, it goes to sleep, I press wake it starts the system (instead of waking up). No BSODs or error messages

BSOD on startup and when trying to update windows on second boot

BSOD SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x1000007e always after cold boot (error-code varies).

The BSOD error-code has been also BAD_POOL_HEADER and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, but the pc has managed to generate only this minidump. There might have been another different message, but I didn't manage to take a picture and no minidump was created.

After updating to version 1709 from 1607, I get a BSOD on startup when the computer has stayed powered off for several hours (every morning).

I used to get this same error behaviour in 1607 as well, but turning off fast boot fixed it. Turning off fast boot (and hibernate) doesn't help now.

No changes to system configuration were made after updating to 1703 and before receiving the first BSOD. The BSOD appeared for the first time the very next day after updating to 1703.

After that, I've updated my GPU-drivers.

The interesting thing is, the BSOD happens only when the computer has been powered off for several hours. Restarting or shutting it down and booting doesn't cause any problems. The system is fully stable when booted.

Back in 1607 booting to BIOS and staying there for about 10 seconds worked as a workaround fix. When I found out disabling fast boot fixed it I stopped doing this. Haven't tested booting to BIOS in 1703, but will propably tomorrow..

The BSOD happens 1-2 seconds after the BIOS logo disappears and the Windows-logo (with the spinning animation) appears.

Minidump doesn't usually get generated. No errors in eventviewer.

The problem seems to be associated with a driver called usbcharger.sys (this is normally associated with a driver that allows the USB port to act as a charger).

Code: BugCheck 1000007E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff80801fe12c0, fffff4864c3e8ca8, fffff4864c3e84f0} *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for USBCharger.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for USBCharger.sys Probably caused by : USBCharger.sys ( USBCharger+14a4 )[/quote] Here is the thread at the time of the crash:

  10. A few months ago when I was looking thru the programs listed in the control panel I uninstalled a program called Fintek USB Charger because I didn't recognize it and it seemed unnecessary. I just checked again and its not under the listed programs in the control panel but there still is a folder for it in x86 program files. Whats the best way to permanently delete it off my computer so windows does not try and verify it. Is deleting the folder in x86 enough? I do not think I have a need for a usb charging program on this particular computer.

That looks to be the culprit. You can manually delete the driver from C:Windows\System32\drivers and use a program like CCleaner to uninstall all traces of Fintek USB Charger. Hopefully that will fix it.

  12. In C:Windows\System32\Drivers it won't let me delete the USBCharger.sys file. It says the action can not be completed because it is open in another program. How do I find what program that is so I can delete it. Looking through task manager there was no obvious usbcharger or fintek background or windows process that was running. I also tried running in safe mode but that did not work either.

BSOD on startup and when trying to update windows on second boot

There is a program you can download and run called Autoruns. It will show you all the things that start up and run in the background and it will allow you to selectively remove or disable any of them. This should help you sort it out.
