BSOD on Windows 10 [Broadcom 802.11 Wireless Driver, bcmwl63a.sys]

    Hey Guys,

~Per a moderator's request, I have created a new thread. I had initially commented this post in another thread. ~

I did a bare metal install of Windows 10 on a Dell E7250 (touch). While docked at work, no issues at all. As soon I took the machine home, BSOD after BSOD. At this point I'm trying to figure out what culprit is... VPN? SEP? Drivers?

So I ended up looking at the dump files, and it seems that "bcmwl63a.sys" is the main culprit [Broadcom Wireless 802.11ac -ASA- Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac]. I'm not all that familiar with deciphering BSOD dumps.

I have tried several different driver scenarios. I have tried installing the latest Win 10 driver from DELL (version 7.35.290.0_A01), which made no difference. Reverted back to an older driver (version 7.35.267.0), still had BSOD's.

I also tried an SFC scan, and it did return errors that were supposedly unfixable. Not sure if it is related at all.

My fear is this is a definite driver issue that dell and Broadcom have to figure out. I'm in the process of testing out another machine (same model) just in case. But I thought just to post my findings thinking maybe someone can suggest something that I haven't tried, or make an observation that I wasn't able to see.

Attached will be the minidump logs collected by dm log collector. I will also upload my cbs.log from the sfc scan, to see if that helps:

dm collected logs >>> Attachment 36590

    CBS.log >>> Attachment 36591

Some other info that may be helpful:

    • E7250 was setup with UEFI Secure Boot configuration
    • BSOD only happens when using wireless
    • Never had these issues on WIN 8.1 (with the same machine)

    :)

Warning Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
    Please create a restore point.
Please follow this tutorial run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

so the machine blue screened just around the 48hr mark while driver verifier enabled. What do next ?

Edit: actually blue screened like 4 times in a row...

Anyways verifies has been disabled, should I re-upload latest logs/dumps?

All the crashes are pointing to the network card.
You have installed the drivers from Dell?

  10. jaziCo Win User
Yes. I have installed drivers from Dell, tested, still BSOD. Just in case, completed deleted driver cab, and let windows install driver, same issue. Dell released a driver last Friday, I'm going give that a try, and let you guys know how it goes.

The cause is the network drivers.
It doesn't seem updated for windows 10 looking at the date.

So after axe0's last observation, I decided to do a wipe the machine, and redo the bare metal install. I happy to say that I have been using the machine for about a week, and no BSOD's.

So not sure if the issue was indeed was axe0 pointed out or not, but after wiping it clean, and starting over, all seems to be well. Thanks for the help!
