BSOD Opening Alienware 17R2 Laptop IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I'm am sure you get alot of these any help would be appreciated. Got my Alienware 17r2 in may. Not one to normally jump on the early adoption bandwagon but hear so many good things about windows 10 and hated 8.1 so much that I did it. Being that it is a high performance laptop seemed like the thing to do. Get random BSOD but usually when opening the lid after it being asleep or when it open and it goes to sleep but has happened ranomly at other time. I am hopefully doing this correctly I have followed all the BSOD posting instructions as long as i dont mess up the upload here in a sec. Any help is appreciated.Attachment 36586

  2. BSOD - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    Hi,

I have been experiencing BSODs in the last 4 days.

The last BSOD showed me "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and I don't know what happened.

(I forgot what the previous BSODs error, I believe it was not "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL").

Here is the link for my last 3 minidumps file and MSinfo32.

    Minidump_and_MSinfo32.zip

    Please, I need your help.

    Thanks.

    Hi jujitsu1,

    Welcome to the 10forums.

There have been a couple of drivers flagged.

Please uninstall Norton using the uninstall instructions.

Please check your manufacturer for updates.

    Intel Graphics driver

    Please do the following:

    • Open an admin command prompt
    • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
    • When it finished reboot your system
    • Open again an admin command prompt
    • Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow doesn't say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

I Uninstalled Norton per the intructions at the link you provided.
I went to the Dell/Alienware support site and update the 2 drivers that you suggested with their latest Windows 10 drivers.
The driver for the Intel 4600 Graphics processor said it was replacing a newer file but i did it anyway.

Then I ran scf/scannow from an admin elevated command promt.
Ran 1st time it completed and I got the message back "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation"
Then i rebooted and I ran scf/scannow from an admin elevated command promt
Completed with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation"

I am leaving Norton off for the moment in case the next step you provide requires me to not have it on my system.

So I havent hear anything from you. I haven't really had the chance to play with it alot yet. As i had previosly stated some of the drivers that I updated from the Dell/Alienware website appear to be older thanthe ones I had installed. I have attached another lo to see if there is anything else I can do to make the system more stable or if it is ok to put norton AV back on.

Sorry, I've been quite busy even though I am free from school.

There are some drivers that you only may install from your manufacturer, this because these drivers are specifically built for your laptop.

You might want to reduce the startup items in the taskmanager, these programs are sometimes interfering with the boot process which could cause trouble.

Move some items from the C partition to the D partition, this to create more free space on the C partition.
For every partition it is best to have at least 10-15% free space, this so windows can do its thing in the background without any trouble.

A standard thing I always do when a new product is released, wait a few months after the product is released so the biggest problems are fixed and the product is more stable.
My advice would be to wait 1 or 2 more months before installing Norton again. I understand you want it back a.s.a.p., but with a more stabilized product you have more benefit.

BSOD Opening Alienware 17R2 Laptop IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

So it has been super frustrating. I have backed up everything on both my SSD and my HDD then I used the new windows 10 feature to refresh the computer and keep my files. So far boot times are outstanding, No IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL crashes. I had to reinstall the Creative Recon3Di driver from the Dell support site. Still going well. I am installing things one at a time to see where it fails. I will let everyone no.

    Hi jujitsu1,

How is it going with the reinstallation process?

  10. jujitsu1 Win User
So far since using Windows 10 refresh, not only has the system been stable and not crashed once, it has made the boot time and shutdown time on the SSD WAAAAYYYYY faster. The only driver I had to install after was the SoundBlaster Recon 3Di driver. Other then it being a pain in the butt to reinstall all the programs I would highly recommend this to anyone having glitchy driver/Windows 10 issues. The refresh feature does in fact leave all you files in place and reinstalls Windows and it leaves you a file on the desktop when you are done that tells you everything you need to reinstall. Obviously make sure you have a backup first just in case. Download the latest drivers from your machines manufacturers website just in case.
