Windows 10: BSOD Page Fault after downloading Win 10, ver 1709 Update

So, where do I go from here?

Maybe CHKDSK repaired my "broken" hard drive.... I don't know how to interpret the HD Tune benchmark results. No BSOD recently but the Fall Creators update still will not install (maybe that's a good thing?).

 

For startup and recovery:
1) un-check automatic restart (if you have a bsod will will have unlimited time to view the BSOD windows which will typically display a bugcheck and may display the misbehaving driver. If you see the driver displayed please record it and post it into the thread. Alternatively use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post the image into the thread.
2) Change write debugging information from kernel memory dump to automatic and make sure write debugging information displays automatic memory dump.
3) For Ccleaner uncheck:
a) memory dumps
b) windows log files

If the parameter is highlighted in yellow it means that the parameter almost reached a critical value. At this point it is highly recommended to check this parameter regularly to see if the value becomes worse.

If there are no more BSOD plan the following steps on Thursday Nov 30:
1) Uninstall all AV software using applicable company uninstall tools
(There should only be a functioning Windows defender on the computer)
2) disconnect all unessential hardware from the computer (printer, headset, xbox, etc.)
3) Create a bootable windows 10 iso: Download Windows 10
4) Insert the windows 10 iso into any USB port
5) Create a brand new restore point
6) Open file explorer
7) Click on the drive with the windows 10 iso and look for a file named setup or setup.exe
8) launch the setup file
9) if there is a keyboard key to turn off wireless then mechanically turn off wireless.
10) disconnect ethernet
11) perform an in place upgrade repair following the text and images in this link: (decline updates at this time)

12) if the computer is able to perform the in place upgrade repair and upgrade to windows 10 version 1709 the troubleshooting will be completed.
13) if the computer is not able to perform the in place upgrade repair look for an error message and error code and post that into the thread. Perform step 12 onward if the computer is not able to be upgraded to windows 10 version 1709.

14) Download and install everything search:

15) Search for:

16) For any files that are found please use one drive or drop box to post share links into the thread.

 

Thanks zbook for the response. I downloaded the AVG uninstall tool to remove AVG Antivirus Free edition. I ran the tool and first it advised there were no AVG Products found on my computer! I ran it anyway and it did not work citing "Avguix.exe failed". Apparently, there is a AVG "clear tool" as well which can be used if the uninstaller fails. I have contacted AVG support for further instruction.

I did change the Startup/recovery settings as you requested.

 

So, in advance of trying to run the AVG clear tool, I tried to create a Restore Point. Received a window "There was an unexpected error in the property page; Catastrophic Failure 0x8000FFFF. I tried it twice with the same error...

 

What happens if you try to make a completely new system backup using Macrium Reflect? This might be better than trying to make incremental restore points.

 

I was finally able to remove AVG Antivirus using their "clean tool" in Safe Mode. *Party Will monitor performance and advise any errors/BSOD's.

I will follow the instructions per zbook starting on Nov 30.

 

Update: OK, it has been about a week and no problems or BSOD's.

I successfully was able to update yesterday to the Fall Creators Windows update (ver 1709). I have been running Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 after said update and several plug-ins with no issues.

Perhaps updating the AMD graphics driver and/or uninstalling AVG Antivirus software was the culprit but for now I am not going to make any more changes.

I will give it another week and advise any further issues...
