    BSOD playing NFS Rivals on Dell XPS 15 L502X


    Just when I thought I figured out the driver problem on my laptop, now I am facing a problem with overheating and/or stability issues. After less than 5 minutes of playing, the screen turned blue and error code showed with a QR code which just lead to a page on Microsoft support page. Can I upload a crash report here and have someone take a look at it?

    I ran the game later again and changed all video settings to absolute minimum, even switched to a window with a lower resolution, and this is what happened to the temperatures:

    The previous pwner has said that he cleaned it all nicely and that he put a new thermal paste. Could he be lying or os there a chance that the driver itself could cause this instability? I could also try cleaning it but I dont think dust is the problem...

    BSOD playing NFS Rivals on Dell XPS 15 L502X

    There were 2 misbehaving hardware drivers identified in the single crash.
    Both were GPU drivers:

    igdkmd64.sys
    9.17.10.4459
    igdkmd64.sys Thu May 19 12:45:17 2016 (573DFBAD)

    nvlddmkm.sys
    22.21.13.8165
    nvlddmkm.sys Fri Mar 31 20:26:23 2017 (58DF01BF)

    There were event logs displaying problems with the Dell support assistant.




    1) Uninstall all GPU drivers using DDU:

    Display Driver Uninstaller: How to use - Windows 7 Help Forums
    2) Install source: Dell
    Support for XPS 15 L502X | Drivers & downloads | Dell US


    The Dell site is the preferred source for the GPU drivers.

    Alternative options but second choice are Nvidia and Intel
    Nvidia website, method: "clean install" and also install PhysX driver if applicable.
    NVIDIA
    If you want to use the automatic Nvidia search it will need a browser that supports JAV....for example IE


    3) Un-install and reinstall the Dell support assistant.

    4) The BIOS: Version/Date Dell Inc. A04, 25.3.2011.
    Update the BIOS > A12

    The most up to date Windows version and build can become corrupted.
    In a similar fashion the latest drivers can become corrupted.
    Or the latest drivers can make a computer environment unstable.
    In these cases a driver can be updated, un-installed and reinstalled, or rolled back.

    There was only 1 BSOD mini dump collected by the log collector.
    Sometimes graphic drivers are the cause of a BSOD and other times they are bystanders that were involved in the crash.

    So in case there are any more BSOD please submit a new zip.
