Windows 10: BSOD random with various different stopcodes eg DPC Violation or memor

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on Microsoft online upgrade offer. Shortly after the upgrade I started experiencing random BSOD. I can’t pinpoint any pattern or specific activity that triggers it. The stopcodes given also seems to vary. The most recent stopcodes given was IEQL less or not equal; DPC Watchdog violation and memory management. I can’t always see what the stopcodes are as the computer reboots quite quickly after showing the BSOD. The last stopcode a few minutes ago was Memory management. The frequency of the BSOD are quite random with some days only once or twice and at other times they come in quick succession. For the two weeks prior to the 16 Nov update on Windows 10 the computer was quite stable with no BSOD, but after the update it has returned with a vengeance.

While creating my profile I could not immediately determine the motherboard and graphics card and because the instructions said that I could add that later to my profile I created the profile without that info. I have however not been successful in updating my profile with that info, therefore I will list what I could determine from physically looking at the motherboard and graphics card.

The graphics card has the following number on a sticker on the card – D33006.G.C
The driver has the following info on the “about” in the help screen:
NIVIDIA Control Panel version 8.1.970.0
I am also running a dual screen.

The motherboard has the following markings on it:
PCI Express / ECS Elite Group / FSB 1333 / EA = 002511CCB23 / G31T-M7. Rev 1.0 and 15-V83 011000

It seems that Chrome is also having issues with frequent “page has stopped responding” error messages. However the Microsoft Edge browser and Mozilla FireFox fares no better. I am running MalwareBytes anti exploit with the browsers and my anti virus software is Avast free anti virus.

At times the screen just goes black for a while before returning to normal and at times there was a graphics error message (I can’t exactly remember the wording) That has not happened recently however, but the screen going black is quite frequent. This makes me suspect that there is some issue between NVIDIA and Windows 10, but I can’t say for sure. While posting this I experienced another BSOD stopcode Memory management and had to restart my query.

If I knew how I would have reverted back to Windows 7, but alas that is not within my know how. I am really sorry that I upgraded to Windows 10, but for now it seems that I am stuck with it. L

Sorry if this is a bit long winded, but I have tried to give as much info as possible. Any help that I can get will be appreciated. I have also attached the log file as per the instructions for posting BSOD queries.

DPC Watchdog Violation

Hello

Ever since last week I've had an issue where when I watch video (eg. Netflix, Youtube), my laptop will freeze and make a buzzing sound. The first few times it just unfroze but in the past day or so a blue screen would appear with the stopcode DPC Watchdog
Violation and my laptop would restart.

I've searched around online and tried various fixes:

- changing the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to the standard controller

- updating graphics and audio drivers

- disk check

but none of them have fixed this issue

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have been getting stopcode dpc watchdog violation the last few days. This only seems to happen when I watch a video. How do I fix this?

Sorry that the computer zip file was not attached. Somehow my trying to do so with the first posting did not succeed. (most probably my inexperience to blame)

The zip file is empty. Are you running it as described? Might try running it as Administrator by right clicking on DM_Log_collector and selecting Run as Administrator. See if that gives you anything. Check the size when done.

 

Thanks for your help and patience so far. It seems like my computer has given up. When I put it on the computer box starts up (I can hear the fan running) but my display monitors remain blank. Maybe we should close this thread. If I can get the computer up and running again and the problem is still there I will come back for more help. I am contemplating getting a new box as painful as that may be *Sad

 

Before you give up, can you replace the 4GB memory module (DIMM) you have with a different one? Defective memory is often the cause of a computer not booting.

That worked! I took the memory modules out 2 x 2GB and replaced it with a 2GB mem module from an old computer. At first it did not work (I suspect I put it in the wrong slot) and then I put the old modules back and made sure that they were fitted tightly. After that the computer booted again. Thanks for that. If nothing else I learned something new

However the BSOD still continous, about 6 within the first 10 minutes after starting up again. I don't know if it is relevant or not but the two stop codes that came up today is IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL and KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED.

I am having trouble with the program that generates the sys info files however. I downloaded the program again and right clicked and ran it as administrator.

I upload some photos of what happens when the program runs. Unfortunately the zip file keeps on turning up empty.

IS there perhaps another program or another way that I can use to gather the sys info needed?

I'm starting to suspect a hardware problem maybe with my screen card. I have a inno3D (I think the model is G? 9600 GI model. The markings have started to come off) from an old computer that I can try. However I am not sure how to install the drivers for this card. I am also not sure which driver to download from the inno3D website either. Do I install the drivers before swapping the cards or after? Maybe I am off on a wrong track here.

Run DM_Log_collector again only this time, when you get back to the blue screen that says

Don't press Enter. Instead, close the window by clicking on the X at top right. You will then find a SFDebugFiles folder on your Desktop. Zip it manually then upload that zip file here please.

 

Also, if you would, download this zip file, unzip it and run it.

This is slightly modified version of an older DM_Log_collector.bat. It will leave the last lines of the batch file displayed on the screen as shown. Please take a screen capture of the Command Prompt window and post here. I want to see what the actual Cscript line looks like.

Note: It will also leave 2 or 3 other files/folders on your Desktop, delete them when done.

 

Success at last! I'm beginning to suspect that Google Chrome is also causing issues with my computer and Win 10.

I closed Chrome and followed your instructions. The DM_Log collector created a zip file in the normal manner.
I also downloaded the bat DM_log bat file and followed your instructions. The bat DM_Log also created a zip file which I will attach.

I attach the following file:
1) The DM_Log program zip file
2) A photo of the screen from the DM_Log bat file
3) The zip file that the DM_Log bat file created.

I must say that it has been quite a challenge to get this far with at least 20 reboots and starting all over.

According to the dxdiag output, you have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520. It has driver version 373.06 dated 01-Oct-16, which is quite old for Nvidia drivers.

Remove and install latest Nvidia drivers:

I suggest completely uninstalling the Nvidia display drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from WagnardMobile (near bottom of page) then get the latest driver for you Nvidia card here: NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Then do a custom install of only the NVidia graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

See if that gets rid of the problem.

Note: I'm having trouble reading your dumps as I keep getting symbol file not found errors, so not getting anything useful there yet.
