    Hi all

    I'm at my wit's end.

    My laptop is giving me the BSOD at random times, regularly over the past fortnight. They usually happen while I'm using Chrome, and involved the Broadcom wireless driver. But also happens at other times, I was using the dm_log tool now (without any applications open, just after logging onto my machine) and got the BSOD while the tool was working.

    I updated all my drivers recently, no change. When I run in safe mode, the laptop seems to be ok.

    After I log on the BSOD happens usually within 2 hours, and sometimes while the OS is still loading, it's that bad *Sad

    Welcome to Ten Forums BSOD forum.

    There were 3 BSOD mini dump files collected and when debugged they displayed 1 misbehaving hardware driver.

    Using device manager update: bcmwl63a.sys
    Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver
    Updating a driver: Updating a driver. - Microsoft Community

    An alternative method to update this driver is to open the HP website Contact HP Customer Support | HP® Customer Support
    > enter the computer's product or serial number> view drivers > download to desktop > disconnect internet (hardware off wireless if available and disconnect ethernet) > use device manager to uninstall the misbehaving driver > install the driver from the desktop.

    Thanks for such a swift response.

    I've already updated all the drivers.

    Just in case, I went into Device Manager just now in Safe Mode and updated the Broadcom network adaptor, but Windows says "the best drivers for your device are already installed".

    Anything else I should try?

    See my updated post.
    1) Download driver to desktop
    2) Disconnect from internet (wireless and wired)
    3) uninstall misbehaving driver
    4) install new driver that is on the desktop
    5) reconnect to internet
    6) perform windows updates

    Drivers get corrupted. The message best driver is already installed does not take into account corruption. It can be updated with the Microsoft method or with the HP website.

    Windows by default updates non-Microsoft drivers. So it may be competing with you. With the disconnection of the internet it should allow you to install the new driver.


    7) For the drive to be able to produce dumps it should have > 25 GB free space.
    Please make sure that you create the free space so that for any future BSOD there will be dumps available for debugging.
