Windows 10: BSOD - Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap - storport.sys failure

Hi there,


I recently upgraded my PC to all new hardware. So far everything has been running pretty smoothly, all except a BSOD error I keep getting. I am studying/working in the VFX industry and use a 3D software called Maya. When rendering images within Maya, or sometimes using it in general, my system blue screens with the below error:

What failed: storport.sys


I have been troubleshooting this problem for the last few days, and have tried all the basic solutions such as updating all my system drivers, running SFC Scan, checking my boot drive for errors, restoring my pc, etc. However, nothing is yet to work.


I should note that I have only noticed the error predominately when rendering, and never when not using Maya. It also doesn't happen the second I start rendering or anything, I can sometimes get away with ~30 minutes of work/rendering before the BSOD error occurs again.


Here are my new system specs:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core 3.8GHz

16GB DDR4 RAM

Geforce RTX 2080 SUPER OC

MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI MOTHERBOARD


All components are brand new and have been functioning well besides the BSOD error.


Let me know if any more info is required to help diagnose. The main reason for creating this question is I'm yet to find a solution elsewhere for this problem, despite it being apparently somewhat common.

[Windows 10 BSOD] Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

Unexpected kernel mode trap BSOD always appears when I try to update Windows 10 or reset the PC.

I've tried many solutions, such as:

-Disconnecting external devices

-Booting in safe mode

-Memory diagnostic

-chkdsk

none of which worked. Any suggestions to this problem would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

 

Unexpected kernel mode trap bsod

Recently crashed with a unexpected kernel mode trap error. No hardware or software changes have been made recently. Attached is link to memory dump files and my msinfo. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting will be welcome.

Can you check here:

Windows key + R > type sysdm.cpl > OK > Advanced > click "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery" then, under "System failure", make sure "Write an event to system log" is selected and, under "Write debugging information" make sure "Automatic memory
dump" is selected

Path to dump file - %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP

With "Automatic memory dump" selected, there should be both a "Kernel memory dump" (MEMORY.DMP) created in the C:\Windows folder and a "Small memory dump" (Minidump) created in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder, with each BSOD.



Also, select "Overwrite any existing file" as this will overwrite the kernel memory dump, which can be quite large.

One thing I might suggest at this time is to uninstall Azzouzi HotSpot as the ndiskhaz.sys has been known to cause unexpected kernel mode trap errors in certain setups such as

here.

If the error persists please provide the resulting memory.dmp file.
