  1. BSOD Unmountable Boot Volume

    Hello,

I got this BSOD after running the scanner from Microsoft then leaving it overnight then when I woke up it shows a BSOD Unmountable Boot Volume.

The machine can't go to Automatic Repair/System Restore because after loading it just shows a black screen.
So I've decided to just do a fresh install of Windows 10 or any OS that can save my laptop atm.
I've downloaded a Windows 10 online and made a bootable flash drive then put the OS in it.
Problem is after going to Boot menu then choosing USB it just shows a Blue Windows Logo then it goes into a black screen.
I don't know what to do anymore
I've already tried using SeaTools for DOS but it can't detect my HDD even though in BIOS theres a HDD listed on Boot
    Pls Halp thanks

    BIOS : InsydeH20
    OS : Windows 10

Doing atm: downloading a bootable system repair iso

    :)

Hi HalpStanpls and welcome to Tenforums.
The scanner from MS you refer to - is that the MRT (Malicious Software Removal Tool) or Windows Defender? And the reason you were running it please? (did you have reason to believe you were infected?)

I would suggest downloading Kyhi's recovery tool, and do a few things:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

    1. check the hard drive healtha. either download Crystal Disk Info or
    b. use HDTune (already in the recovery environment)
    2. run chkdsk on the drive

    3. view the drive in Disk Management and make sure it's not "RAW"

    4. copy all your important data off the drive using File Manager copy/paste

    5. try using Macrium to "fix boot" (also in the recovery environment)

If the internal drive is healthy and you are ready to install a fresh copy of W10, please download the ISO and try using RUFUS to create the flash drive.

Then, follow the tutorial here, to install, using CUSTOM installation, and delete every partition on the internal drive before installing.

Please note: Sometimes you need to go into the BIOS and disable UEFI, and enable Legacy boot.

  6. Yes, it's the MRT. I left it overnight then BSOD the next morning.
    I'll try this tomorrow
    It's very late here
    tyvm for replying
I'll post here again to update

BTW Do you know any Recovery Tools for Windows 8? I just saw that the windows license on BIOS is Win8
I keep making something for win10 using Lazesoft but it's not working till I made something for win8.

Okay. Did you think you had an infection? What were the symptoms?

  9. or can you use that by changing OS Optimized Defaults on BIOS to other OS?

If the system had W10 on it, you don't have to go back to W8. Once a system has had W10 installed and activated, you can reinstall W10 as often as you like/need. The digital license resides on the MS servers. You don't need the license key - the W10 installation media will grab the key from the BIOS. (Even the free W10 upgrade is still working, so nothing for you to worry about.) *Wink

  11. Can you put the CrystalDiskInfo in a bootable USB?
If so how? I only know how to put an ISO on a bootable USB

In Kyhi's rescue environment, you can go online, and download it, (portable edition), or you can simply use HDTune, which he has already in it.

    Attachment 146624

Yes, there is a way to add it to Kyhi's media, and he goes into detail on the thread, but I don't know which post it is. For now, maybe just use HDTune to see if the hard drive is healthy or not.

In addition to Kyphi's media other options that you can try:
    1) Use Memtest86+ flash drive and test the memory. When you view the monitor what do you see?
    2) Use a bootable Ubuntu flash drive. When you view the monitor what do you see?
    3) Power on the computer repetitively clicking the F2 or F10 key. In the bios navigate to UEFI diagnostics.
Run the extensive or loop until failure test if available. Run this overnight as it may take 4 to 6 hours depending on the amount of RAM and the size of the drive.

Very good additional options indeed, zbook. I have a sneaky suspicion his drive may have died, since he mentions SeaTools doesn't even see it. When booting to Ubuntu Live distro, upon reaching the desktop, he may immediately get a notice that his hard drive is failing/has failed.

  15. It keeps giving me an error when i put the recovery media in a bootable USB
"The device is in use by another process. Please close any other process that may be accessing the device.
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe (r) "

The only process that was using the device was the Rufus.exe
