Windows 10: BSOD Video_TDR_Failure

I'm getting BSOD regularly with many games. Usually when i alt+tab and open them again. Or my screen blinks and crashes whatever game i was playing, or it simply BSOD.


The only pattern i found is that is minimizing/maximazing related (at least i think so, it always happen in one of that situations, mostly maximizing the game).


I tried updating nvidia driver, installing the drivers on asus website ( on my laptop page) and the problem persists.

Other problem that i dont know if its related is that sometimes when the computer starts from sleep mode, fans spins, but no image, no key response, caps lock and airplane mode led ON, sometimes keyboard backlight doesnt even light up, just power light ON.

The Video_TDR_Failure error may have been caused by an incompatible display driver. Since you mentioned that you already updated the graphics card driver, we suggest performing the steps provided on this

video_tdr_failure BSOD error Windows 10

So twice today I've had my laptop crash to BSOD with "video_tdr_failure igdkmd64.sys" listed as the error code. The system would lock up briefly, then the screen would go black with just the mouse cursor in the middle but not responsive, before dropping
to the BSOD after a minute or so.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue is?

Manufactuer: Acer

Model: Aspire E5-571

OS Build: 10240

Processor: Intel Core i3-4005U

RAM: 4GB

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4400

Driver: 10.18.15.4248 (Auto-installed through Windows Update on October 15th)

Blue screens (BSOD) is mostly occur due to hardware and sometimes due to incompatible software. In a lot of cases it is a corrupted driver or a driver conflict. The most common causes of blue screens are overheating, faulty RAM, video card problem
and BIOS.



If you are able to boot to your system, I would suggest you to perform a Start up repair.

Step 1: Perform Start up Repair.

Follow the steps mentioned below to perform Start up Repair:

• Right click on the start buttonand select Shut Down or Sign Out.
• Next keep Pressing SHIFT button and click Restart.
• This will open the boot options.
• Next select Troubleshooting.
• Select Advance options.
• Select Start up repair and follow the onscreen instruction

You can check if you need to update the chipset drivers and also load default setting in BIOS.

I would suggest you to update the BIOS from the Manufacturer site of your system.

I would also advise you to install all the windows updates.
