  1. BSOD WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR when I UNplug HDMI cable

    Hi,

I have a quite annoying bug on my Asus Laptop UX461UN.

I am under W10 1809 with all updates.

When I have no HDMI cable connected to my computer I get an BSOD with the famous WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Sometime it only freezes.

The sump creation never succeed : it stay stuck at 0%.

The BSOD usually happen after opening the session (I don't think it can happen before). Few seconds or minutes after login.

If a HDM cable (with or without screen) is connected, then I can use my computer for weeks without any trouble.

I guess the issue started only with W10 1809 update, I never had this before.

As I have no dump, it is difficult to understand what is involved.

    I tried many things as:

    - Clean install with only ASUS proposed drivers

    - old and new BIOS

    - several drivers revision for both intel and nvidia GPU and also MEI.

    - Memory test (Windows one) : no error

    - SSD testing with Sandisk sofware : nothing here too

    - CPU testing with Intel software : no issue

Asus support told me to send back the computer for repair but it would takes 7 to 21 days and this is my computer for work. I don't have any computer available to work in the meantime.

I kept a HDMI > VGA with me when I need to use the computer travelling.

After some research my guess is that there could be a voltage issue linked to HDMI plug. Bios dosn't gives me any option on this (neither potential overclocking).

I am downloading hardware monitor right now to see if I find anything else.

But if you have any suggestion it would be helpful.

    Thanks for your help!

    :)

Unplugging HDMI cable worked for me

From what I've been reading on this W10 upgrade issue; very few have more than one monitor and most problems seem to be on laptops (mine is)
Considering the amount of complaints with no hard and fast solution that I can see; is it possible for Microsoft to step up to the plate on this issue; I mean these aren't isolated problems by the amount of posts on this forum and thread.

Why exactly is ATi considered be better at HDMI?

I plug my HDMI cable into the card, then into my TV. Those are the steps that I have to do. All the steps you list make absolutely no sense to me.

    HDMI Cable

    Hi Quinten,

For us to isolate your concern with the HDMI cable, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
    • Is this the first time you experienced the issue?
    • Are you getting any error messages? If yes, What is the exact error message?
    • Have you tried using your HDMI to other devices? If yes, what is the result?
    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We look forward to your response.
