Windows 10: BSOD when installing 23H2

HelloWe are currently testing the upgrade to Windows 11 23H2. We deploy this update via SCCM in an application package composed of KB5031455 required to install 23H2 via Enablement Package and KB5027397.The update has provoked a few BSOD on our test devices, when the computers rebooted and were around 30% of install progress. The error code was CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. then, all the devices rebooted by themselves and continued the install, until they rebooted a last time. After that, they were all succesfully updated to 23H2 and no issues were found.We've checked the Device Manager for any err

Cannot install Windows 11 23H2

The build number 22631.2506 implies the device has been upgraded to 23H2 already.

Here are the version/build numbers for Windows 11.

• 22000.xxx is 21H2
  
• 22621.xxx is 22H2
  
• 22631.xxx is 23H2

Cannot install Windows 11 23H2

If your system runs 22H2 and is up-to-date, you can install the tiny enablement package to upgrade to 23H2 quickly.

Prerequisites

Before updating to Windows 11, version 23H2 using an enablement package, you must be running Windows 11, version 22H2. You must have the following prerequisite installed before applying this update:

• October 31, 2023—KB5031455 (OS Builds 22621.2506 and 22631.2506) Preview or a later cumulative update
  

 

BSOD- atikmpag.sys

This is most likely due to an installation/upgrade error with ATI driver's. I suggest doing DriveSweeper and the following:

• Drivesweeper all drivers & in Safe Mode
• Unistall all drivers that aren't used in DriveSweeper (CCC Profiler Updates, MSI AfterBurner, anything related to ATI that use's it's drivers.)
• After you do this, the first thing you need to do is go into Device Manager and Unistall your ATI Drivers

Once your done, restart the PC and then try installing the latest drivers.


I had several issues with this in the past, but I overcame it with logical reasoning and whenever I have a driver issue, I just use these steps and I always overcome the problem.
