Windows 10: BSOD when powering through power adapter, no problem working via a docking station

Dear Community, I am desperately looking for some help after a year of problems with the BSOD and unsuccessful help by the Microsoft helpline assistants.My laptop Dell Precision 5520 on Windows 10, regularly updated, shows frequent BSODs when I work on the laptop while powering it through the original Dell power adapter. The adapter is new and original.The BSOD occurs randomly, but only when powering the laptop via battery or the power adapter, not while the laptop sits on the docking station DEll original WD15.The BSOD does not seem to be linked to any specific piece of software. I cannot f

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• 
  Make sure the power light for the docking station is on
  
• 
  Make sure the monitor is getting power
  
• 
  Make sure the cable is connected properly to the monitor
  
• 
  Unplug and reconnect the Mini-DVI adapter on the back of your docking station
  
• 
  Try flipping the connector for the adapter over (turns out some adapters can go in upside-down)
  
• 
  Take the Surface out of the docking station then put it back in

The docking station and laptop are not the same brand. The docking station is an IOgear Ulta Slim USB-C Docking Station. The PC is a Lenovo Yoga 730. The docking station has pass-through power from the Notebook PC power supply into the docking station,
to the USB-C cable of the docking station, to the USB-C port of the PC. All docking station ports are functioning, including RJ45, HDMI, and various USB ports for other external devices. The only thing not functioning is power to the PC through the USB-C
port.

But the laptop you try to power up is of the same brand as the docking station?

Did you install the driver for the docking station from the manufacturer? This is docking station behaviour and should be working without further settings by the user.
