BSOD When using dual monitors - ?Intel Graphics problem

    Hello everyone,

This is a problem I faced in Windows 7. I performed an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and I'm still facing the same BSOD.

I've only really noticed this when having both monitors turned on but I think it has happened a couple of times when I've only had one monitor on. It only usually happens when the screens have gone into power saving mode and I come back and move the mouse. It doesn't happen every single time, it's a little sporadic.

As requested I have attached the logs using the forum's tools. My system specs on my profile are also up-to-date. Below is a list of steps I've already taken:

    • Tested RAM (ran Memtest 16hrs+)
    • Flashed BIOS to its latest version
    • Upgraded/downgraded Intel drivers for graphics
    • Virus/malware scans (no viruses etc.)

    Please advise. *Smile

Any help is appreciated in advance.

    Thanks,

    Liam *Smile

    :)

I THINK I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! (at least for my computer). Dual Graphics was causing an issue (when my AMD Radeon discrete GPU card was trying to work with my AMD A-Series APU). When I disabled dual graphics in Catalyst Control Panel, it worked. When
I reenabled it, it broke again. So I'm pretty sure it has something to do with that.

So I then completely uninstalled AMD Catalyst Control Panel and ALL AMD display drivers, reset the computer. The problem was again fixed but I had the generic Microsoft display adapter with horrible resolution. So I searched for hardware changes in Device
Manager, found the AMD/ATI Radeon graphics adapter I had, and then reinstalled the Catalyst Control Panel. I then used a trick I read about previously for how to use dual graphics with the discrete GPU card as the primary one instead of the APU (involves
changing BIOS setting to dual graphics when the monitor cable is attached to APU output, then disabling Dual Graphics in Catalyst control panel and turning machine off, plugging monitor cable to discrete GPU output instead and then turning the computer back
on, and then finally reenabling dual graphics in Catalyst Control panel, and KNOCK ON WOOD, it seems to have fixed the problem while also using my discrete GPU as the primary graphics card for those programs/games that won't support dual graphics).

I will update if it in fact breaks again, but this seems to have solved the problem for me. So if anyone else has an AMD A-Series APU with an additional discrete GPU graphics card, try disablilng dual graphics to see if this solves the problem.

Also, I had a heck of a time getting the most recent Windows 10-supported display drivers from AMD to install, but finally did (after I first fixed the missing button issue by disabling dual graphics though).

Do you have the problem with the same monitors on another device?
    Have you tried other monitors?

I do not have another device to test the monitors on but both monitors are brand new.

have you tested it in safe mode w/ networking features?
    sfc /scannow?
    chkdsk?

SFC always comes back with no corrupted files, chkdsk also does not pick up any errors.

I haven't tried safemode w/networking but the problem is it's such a random crash. I will try leaving the system for a while with both monitors on in safemode.

Okay, I've tried booting up into safe mode w/networking in Windows 10. It does not output to both monitors as I believe the 'Generic PnP monitor' driver Windows is using is preventing this.

Offc, how could I missed that one. You're right...
From your minidump I can tell you, that you have a problem with your Intel Graphics Driver. Try downloading latest version from Intel website

I'm already running with the latest drivers directly from Intel. I've also tried downgrading before (on my old Win7 install), yet I still faced the same problem.

I've been running now for just over an hour (in normal boot) with both monitors on and going back and forth from the PC; no crash yet. This happens though and just out of nowhere, when I will return later on and move the mouse, it will crash.

I just like to add that that I have the same issue with my laptop, it is using Nvidia Optimus with the Integrated Intel HD GPU. It's definitely the Intel HD drivers. As for my laptop the HDMI and eDP port is connected to my integrated GPU.

I also upgraded to Windows 10, like you did. I have a PC with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 GPU and I do not have this issue with dual monitors.

I guess we have to wait til Intel fixes it, though not sure if they will or not.

  12. It's not just the Intel GPUs. I have a dual AMD card and I am having the same issue.

Also, not sure if this is related, but youtube HTML5 on firefox keeps on getting corrupted green screens of pixels every now and then. This did not happen in Windows 8.1 when I was using it. All I can definitely conclude is that it's Windows 10 and the drivers.

Windows 10 has just been released, chances are big that not all drivers are updated yet.
What you can try, is a clean install of windows 10 and see what drivers Windows uses. In my experience, upgrading your OS always leads to issues.
