Windows 10: BT hub has to be restarted before taptop can connect

Over last couple of weeks my laptop, running Windows 10, will not connect to my WiFi. If I restart the WiFi by rebooting my BT home hub 5 it will then connect.


I may add every other device in my home, 3 phones, ps4, smart TV, Amazon firestick and Sky box all connect normally to the BT hub at all times, it's just this laptop that won't. Again up to a few weeks ago this laptop also connected to my wifi without any issues.


I have ran the trouble shooter on the laptop when it won't connect to my wifi, it says all is normal.

Bt home hub keeps restarting?

Hi when I am either on my computer or watching TV(Bt vision) my home hub keeps restarting I have tried reseting it but no difference what should I do.

My N8 keeps crashing the wireless signal from my BT Infinity hub. BT messed about remotely with the hubs different channels and then sent me a brand new hub, but it was still the same. Despite 2 self confessed 'techies' at Carphone Warehouse telling me
that it is impossible for the phone to affect the wireless signal, they replaced my handset anyway. Alas, the problem remains the same. After only a few seconds of wifi connection between my N8 and BT Infinity hub, the wifi signal disappears completely, not
just to my N8 but to all connected devices. The only way to restore the transmission is to reboot the hub. Just to add, the hub remains accessible via ethernet at all times. It is only the wireless signal that is affected.

Are you trying to get the printer to specifically use 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz, or are you just trying to get it to connect in the first place?

To connect a printer to your Hub 6 the controls are on the printer itself. You'll need to select the SSID of your hub and provide the WiFi password (or use the WPS button on the hub). There may, depending on the make/model of printer, be a control for which band to use. You'd need to check its manual.

If you already have the printer connected but want to tie it to use the 2.4GHz band only, then there is no such control for individual devices on the Hub 6. What you could do is separate the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands so they each have a different SSID. That way when you connect ANY device to the WiFi you can choose which band to use by connecting to the appropriate SSID. This would however prevent your PC and other devices from automatically switching bands when signal strength is poor on one (ie, switching to 2.4GHz when out of range for 5GHz).





Edit: My Epson ET-4750 only has 2.4GHz WiFi capabilities anyway, so it can only connect on that band.
