Windows 10: bthmodem.sys corrupted - sfc /verifyonly

Dear all,I just had my PC with Windows 11 crash while installing updates. Once it came back to life I ran dism and sfc and sfc reported that bthmodem.sys is corrupted. While I didn't yet attempt a repair I'm curious about the nature of the corruption.The SHA1 checksum of the file is 4f9afc33289dadf4fc78fc744b3b163810c7ecd1. Virus total reports the file first seen in the wild on 2022-05-06. Checking three other systems, one of which has never been "in contact" with any of my machines, they all have the same C:\Windows\System32\drivers\bthmodem.sys file. BTHMODEM PROBLEM

My unit is Inspiron 13 5310, and I already went to my device manufacturer's website and downloaded all available drivers and still has the same problem. Autoruns highlights the two with BTHMODEM in red and DBUtilDrv2 in yellow:

How to fix SFC Scannow Corrupted files

Yes, it does. The sequence you describe is common.

SFC reports corrupt files that cannot be repaired

Hi Jay,

For to better assist you with the SFC reports issue, we'd like to know the following:

• Have you installed any Windows updates prior to this issue?
  
• Please provide us a CBS logs for us to determine what is the file that cannot be repaired.
  

To get the logs, please follow the steps below:

• Open a Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• Copy and paste findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >”%userprofile%\Desktop\sfclogs.txt”, then hit
  Enter. (This will create a sfclogs.txt file on your desktop).
  
• Open the sfclogs.txt and check the result of SFC scan.
  

Note: SFC cannot always fix corrupted files.
