Bug In Firefox 44 (For Norton Users) That Deletes Passwords

When I upgraded from Firefox 43 to Firefox 44 I lost all my passwords. It appears if you were using an older version of Firefox along with Norton Identity Safe, Norton Identity Safe set a configuration switch within Firefox which was activated by the upgrade to Firefox 44. Several days ago I reported the missing passwords after the Firefox upgrade and working with Bugzilla they were able to determine what triggered the missing passwords with Firefox. A hotfix should be coming out shortly.

I just got a popup message saying there is a serious problem with my windows 10.0 and Firefox 44. Call 855-336-3599 for assistance from a Microsoft technician. I cannot shut the browser, and am being told not to turn off the computer or damage may occur.

Use the Task Manager to exit the browser. Reboot and see if the pop-up goes away.

Glad I still only have the 43 64bit version installed! Have been staying with Cyberfox lately having switched over from Waterfox and now Cyberfox has been acting up all but anything to do with passwords which it remembers much better then seen with the other FF and variants! If you decide to try that simply uncheck the Australian gui option if not from there.

  6. FF has bugs just like any other browser and none are excluded from having their own. It's software just like anything else that has to progress as it goes along or flops!

  7. I agree but when some members have a go about Edge Browser, not having certain add ONS,
then praise FF that is what I am pointing out.

    Who cares.
Edge have bugs too and "some member " praises it like the 2nd coming.
I am glad Edge is just a shitty as other browsers.

  9. How long as Edge been out compared to all other browsers,
Edge is just a baby at moment but at least it will get there in time and hopefully catch and overtake the rest

    Who cares.
Until glitches have been fixed, Edge is still as shitty as other browsers.
    That's the bottom line.

  11. The finding here have been with "every browser" tried out so far no matter how new or old you get so far and then suddenly the next version released proves itself to be buggy since every time you turn around the update wizard wants you to put the next one on. Once IE got to 9 I was already waiting to see what would come up since the 32bit FF was out and far from any Chrome lover here I happened to run across the Waterfox 24 variant and gave that a good look!

The problem that wasn't seen with WF for a long time amounting to 4.5yrs. was not seeing it freeze up when having multiple browser windows open until it reached the 40-42 releases and started acting up right when the 64bit FF was just coming out but while putting FF x64 on I also ran tests on some others to see how their latest were doing and have been giving Cyberfox a run until that just started acting up a little.

Common problem with a common solution which is.....? go back a few releases until you find one that runs good! and stick with it!

When you look at the release notes for browsers they usually show bugs which have been resolved. Some of the could be security related and critical. So using an older release can have problems, I actually switched to Firefox 44 when it was on RC2 and reported the bug at that time. My main choice for a password manager is Norton Identity Safe but that has not been operational since October because they had to rebuild it from scratch because of stricter security requirements within Firefox.

Bug In Firefox 44 (For Norton Users) That Deletes Passwords

Hi. New member here. Ran into this bug myself this week. Very annoying. Tried an alleged fix I found on the Firefox forums, but it didn't entirely work. Any word on if the bug fix will restore lost passwords or if the ones that are gone are gone for good? Thanks.

I honestly don't know why I didn't wait on updating. I've been screwed by bugs like this before. I know the update fixed some critical issues, but honestly, I don't think those things really would have affected me had I waited, say, a week or so before updating so that bugs like this one could be discovered and fixed.

MS couldn't do IE right and we're supposed to think Edge is going to be any different?

Unless you have a backup of logins.json to put back into the Appdata/Roaming/Firefox directory you have lost your passwords. Fortunately for me I had a backup of my Windows C: drive which I made with Macrium Reflect.
