Windows 10: BUG in Kernel API kernel32 - Deadlock in Slim Reader/Writer SRW Locks

Hi,

A SRW lock may become unobtainable to threads already waiting on it if one of the waiting threads is suspended.

An example is provided at github Try running it many times, it tends to lock up 30% of the times for me: main_fails.c
In the repository is also a version of the code that uses the Mutex api which doesn't lock up.

My guess is the kernel is trying to give the lock to the suspended thread not checking if the thread is suspended, making it unobtainable to other threads.

LG Slim portable DVD Writer

I just received my new LG slim portable external DVD writer and cannot get it to work. I have Windows 10 on my laptop. I have inserted the DVD that came with it and it seems to be read and a few minutes later the writer opens and says insert DVD. I have
done this but am unable to open or view my DVD. When I open documents to check Drive E it is not there. Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

 

windows 10 locks dvd reader/writer

I have a dual boot system. One has Windows 10 and one has Windows 7.

When I boot Windows 10 I am unable to eject the DVD reader/writer. I've been spending hours trying to get it fixed but no matter what I do, the drive refuses to eject in Windows 10. It is as if Windows 10 places a lock on it. When I use a paper clip to open the drive and place a CD in it and close the drive then Windows 10 reads the contents of the CD.

When I restart the PC and I see the Windows 10 and Windows 7 boot menu/screen the drive will eject when the eject button is pressed. When I boot in Windows 7 the drive will also eject.

Something in Windows 10 is locking up the drive. I've tried disabling the anti-virus and unloaded everything available at windows startup but, no joy. Perhaps it is some windows service?

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps to resolve XPS document writer issues.

• 
  Right click on empty area on Desktop, click on Create and select New text document.
  
• 
  Open the created text document and type some text (input text as you desire, save and close text file)
  
• 
  Again open the text document, click on File tab and click on Print.
  
• 
  Select the Microsoft XPS writer and click on Print button.
  
• 
  You may select the location to save the file.
