Windows 10: Bug: In Task View, clicking Desktop 2, 3, etc always switches to Desktop 1 instead.

Hello,I want to make use of the multiple desktop feature of Windows but I have a problem. No matter which desktop I select, it will switch to Desktop 1 instead. The problem is only if I try to select the desktop from Task View using my mouse. PC Specs:Windows 11 Pro 23H2Intel i5-14600kAsus ROG STRIX B760-I Gaming WifiCorsair 32gb DDR5Nvidia RTX 3070 Please help.

Can't enter Task View from virtual "Desktop 1" on Windows 10

I have been enjoying Task View and multiple virtual desktops for some time now, but suddenly Task View has stopped working properly on my Desktop 1 virtual desktop. Neither the Taskbar button nor the keyboard shortcut (Win + Tab) work for activating Task
View. However, I can Win + Arrow Key to switch to other virtual desktops. From any of the other virtual desktops, everything works normally. Furthermore, once I enter Task View from another virtual desktop, I can Win + Arrow Key to switch back to Desktop 1
while remaining in Task View, which then shows open application windows from Desktop 1. However, once I exit Task View, the problem resumes and I can't re-enter Task View without again first switching to another virtual desktop. After I enter Task View from
another virtual desktop, I can "delete" virtual Desktop 1 by clicking the "x," but then the next desktop in the list (i.e. 2) becomes the new "Desktop 1" and acquires the same problem as before where I can't enter Task View from Desktop 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

edit: Alt + Tab works normally on all virtual desktops.

 

Windows 10 task view assign applications

Step 2: Click it to add virtual desktop.

Step 3: Open the apps that you want to use on that desktop.

Task View feature: can I have different set of icons per virtual desktop?

From the info I got so far, I figured the multiple desktops work for open applications, e.g. technical tasks related vs. sales related tasks. Can I have the virtual desktop to customize for each task groups?

For example:

• Task View 1: Sales
  • CRM app
  • Outlook
  • Vendor related ordering...
• Task View 2: Technical
  • Helpdesk
  • Bug Trekker
  • Website editor
  • TechHelp library
  • etc.
• Task View 3: Financial
  • Accounting software
  • Banking app
  • Budgeting
  • etc.

Having to have everything always open appears to me a waste of resources. However, when I preferably work no sales I do not need to see (and get distracted) by technical apps etc.

The same applies to IE (and other browser) windows. In the past I used different browsers for different task groups (or subject matters) to allow separation of History and Favorites.

Or is it a better option to buy several computers, link to separate online accounts and use a KVM switch?
