  1. Bug: "This PC" Icon's "Manage" does not invoke Administrator prompt for rights elevation

Its an on going bug, which never seems to be getting fixed, but if you have the "This PC" icon on your desktop, and right click it to obtain the popup menu, and select "Manage" (which has to it's left the now ubiquitous Administrator Shield symbol) the prompt for Administrative Rights elevation isn't shown. So if you're using an account without Admin rights then any tools within the "Computer Management" Console will not work - for example "Device Manager" or "Disk Management".

  2. Never prompted to elevate privilege as administrator

OK, I tried Dinesh's tutorial. First, here's a list of accounts for my machine:

Bug: "This PC" Icon's "Manage" does not invoke Administrator prompt for rights elevation [IMG]

I held down Shift and rebooted, and got the WinRE splash screen. I was prompted to log in, with "Dan" my only option:

Bug: "This PC" Icon's "Manage" does not invoke Administrator prompt for rights elevation [IMG]

If I clicked on "Don't see your account", I got this:

Bug: "This PC" Icon's "Manage" does not invoke Administrator prompt for rights elevation [IMG]

Is it suggesting that "Dan" is an administrator account? Oh, that it were so... I went back, selected the "Dan" account, and it booted into command prompt. I then attempted the first of Dinesh's instructions:

Hello darkness, my old friend... "Access Denied."

  3. Elevated Command Prompt

    Hi Tommy,

A command prompt is an entry point for typing computer commands in the Command Prompt window. By typing commands in an elevated command prompt, you can perform tasks that require administrator rights on your computer without using the Windows graphical interface.
You may open an elevated Command Prompt by following the steps below.

    1. Open the Start menu, and type cmd to open the search box.

    2. When Command Prompt shows up in the search results, right click or press and hold on it, then click/tap on
    Run as administrator.

Feel free to post your query should you need assistance.

Task Manager prompt for elevated ID / password on Windows 10

    Hi Maria Fab,

Yep Logged in as local administrator where task manager works fine without elevated prompt,

Normal user without admin rights where this elevated prompt is appearing. On Windows 7 pro we dont found any Elevation prompt for accessing Task manager, only prompting on Windows 10 pro.

    Thanks & Regards,
