    Windows 10 upgrade and Windows.old folder

    After upgrade to Windows 10 there is a large folder "Windows.old" using lots of C drive space. Can this be deleted or at least moved to an external hard drive?

    My current Windows is Windows 10 Pro Build 10240. I upgraded my Windows from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926. Now I have three Windows folder in local drive (Drive CBugged drive space delete windows.old :). One is Windows folder, the other is Windows.old folder, and the
    last one is Windows.old(1). Windows.old(1) folder is already empty and no need to delete anything.



    After upgrade to Windows 10 Pro Build 10240, Windows.old folder was created and this is a big size folder - around 23GB. My local drive (Drive CBugged drive space delete windows.old :) total space is 102GB. Now I have 32GB of free space available out of 102GB in local drive, and I notice that
    the free space is reducing in a very fast pace after upgrade (before upgrade it was 52GB free space).



    I would like to empty the Windows.old folder and get free up some space. And I don't like to go back to Win 10 TP either.



    I have no idea about the implication or any affect on the system if I delete, can I do that? I need your technical and expert advice on this please.

    And what exactly would you like to achieve? Both windows are showing 58.1 GB used.

    If you want to have exact overview of the file and folder's size, I would recommend Treesize free. It's a small and free program.
