Windows 10: Build 10074 Windows Defender scheduled task scans ?

I installed Build 10074 as a clean install in a VM.
I see Windows Defender running a quick scan MANY times per day.
I would prefer it run a quick scan once a week.

I disabled the built in Windows Defender Scheduled Scan scheduled task.
Windows re-enabled the task, and keeps running scans.

The scheduled task has no triggers.
The task actions/arguments have Scan -ScheduleJob.

Is there a way to modify the "ScheduleJob" parameters, should i remove this option, or just delete the built-in task and create my own task ?

Scheduled scans by Windows Defender not recognized by Windows Defender

I have a scheduled scan by windows defender in my task scheduler. When I review the task in the task scheduler window, it shows that the task complete successfully two days ago, however when I open Windows Defender it says that I am overdue for a scan.

It appears that the Windows Defender program does not recognize the automatically scheduled scan.

 

To Schedule A Task...

Open Start, type Schedule tasks

Hit Enter

In the left pane, expand Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows, and then scroll down and double-click (or press) the Windows Defender folder.

In the top center pane, double-click (or press twice) Windows Defender Scheduled Scan.

In the Windows Defender Scheduled Scan Properties (Local Computer) window, select the Triggers tab, go to the bottom of the window, and then tap or click New.

Specify how often you want scans to run and when you’d like them to start.

Playing with this:

I removed the -ScheduleJob argument from the task, rebooted, and that argument was added back.
Looking at your tutorial, I added a trigger to the task to run once per day, rebooted, and that trigger was gone.

I deleted the built-in task, rebooted, and that task did not get re-created *Biggrin
Just checked again, and the task is there now, so it does get re-created (eventually). *Shock

For me, it seems W10 wants this task to run the way it wants, not the way i want.

I could try a different AV and disable WD, but I'm just trying to test W10 "as-is".
It's not a biggie, i know this W10 VM is a short-lived OS for me.

 

I think i got this fixed.

In Group Policy
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Defender/Scan

I set Specify the day of the week to run a scheduled scan to Never.
I set Specify the interval to run quick scans per day to 0.
The changes deleted the built in Windows Defender Scheduled Scan scheduled task.
I added my own scheduled task for a WD scan and so far that seems to be working the way i prefer.

I'll see how it goes the next few days.
